Celebrating Fan Art's 19th Year Anniversary!

Fan Art was the first board I moderated on Fan Forum and as a mod its been through many changes. When I first moderated it, I remember all it had was threads with different topics for members to share their art, it wasn't as busy or as booming as it now, and there was a certain distance with members not really chatting, only to post their art. Together with Tina, we brought about game threads to keep things light hearted, threads for members to have their own galleries, hosting things like icon challenges and graphic challenges. And as mods came and moved on, I helped recruit other people who I saw potential in moderating the board. Si I became close with and gelled with instantly, and many of the graphic challenges we hosted were hugely popular! Our little board of graphics grew and grew, and it was pleasure to mod until the day came for me to step down. It still has a special place in my heart, to this day. - Theresa

[Share about your favorite type of art and what you love about it]
I have always loved producing blends. I used to be all about making icons but these days I feel like I can do a lot more with blends and banners. I love to experiment with different textures, blending modes, blurring light effects to add colour and vibrancy to my art, I like that my art is usually vibrant and stands out.
[Share why you enjoy making or appreciating fan art and when you started creating fan art, if you make any]
I started making art at the age of 15. I would go on message boards and see all these fantastic arts and I wanted to make them too. I remember my first art was a simple fantastic four blend that I did. It was harsh, it had no colouring and it was very basic but I loved doing it, and I loved seeing what people thought, it made me better. I discovered these great fan artists, and was able to learn from others, getting inspired by artists to help my own art. Its wonderful that 15 years on, I still get the thrill in making graphics and befriending all these wonderful fan artists, some of whom I still talk to.

I really want to thank all the posters we have here! This is my favorite board in :ff: and makes me really happy to be part of it. It's a blast to see the positive energy that we have here, and appreciate all the pretty arts that you guys share with us. Thank you so much for keeping this board so active and such a fun place! I started making fan arts for about 19 years now, and since the first little icon I made I haven't stopped. :lol: Making fan arts is a hobby to me, a way to spend my free time. I don't have a particularly favorite type of art, to me it all depends on my daily mood/muse and I'm constantly trying to learn new techniques and find new inspirations, which is something that this board always manages to provide to me.
Congratulations to all of us! :woot: Now let's party!!

I love that art can be be made in many different forms whether it's a banner, icon or a video. I believe that anyone can make an art because didn't a lot of us make stick figures? it's clearly not the most unique form of art but it's still art. Art is just beautiful and it's something I've always been fascinating to see, just to see the special talent of the art that people can make.

I've been making art pretty much all my life; the earliest age I can remember was when I was probably 9 years old when I had this free program on Windows called "Windows Movie Maker"... for now that program might be trash to most people but it's the program that I grew up on because it was the only program that I knew of. I loved placing clips together and making songs match the movement of any video! I didn't know what I was doing but it was just fun and the reason why I had a passion for making videos was because of opening credits for tv shows. It was my favorite part of a lot of tv shows because how the song moves in with the titles and I was like, "I want to do that one day." and than I saw trailers and I said I want to do that some day. LOL so my art love started with videos and than moved to regular artwork which I first started making with the free program GIMP! I rocked with that program and even made my first few OP's with it so it. I will always have an appreciation of the art that people can make.

I've been posting (and lurking) on the Fan Art board for quite a few years and I've always loved the creativity of people and seeing how everyone has their own style when it comes to making art. The whole board is so welcoming and nice, always ready with tips for new artists and compliments for everyone posting their creations.
My own favourite type of art to make is icons, seeing what different ideas can be fit in such small space as well as playing with colours and compositions is always so much fun.
The wonderful competitions and challenges always keep me on my toes and help me improve and try different styles and ideas I wouldn't otherwise have thought of! Here's to many more years of great arts!

Congrats Fan Art board on 19 great years on Fan Forum. :love: From the moment that I became a part of a fandom and started posting on forums, I knew I wanted to learn to make fan art. Like many others, GIMP was the first software I used to make arts. I have learned so much from other fan artists through the years and owe it all to them for getting me into making art.
