 I suggest using more natural colours so some of the icons are so overexposed, otherwise keep experimenting __________________

Yeah PS or PSP are really the ones you need to get your work more refined really
 but as a starter, the other programs can do simple crops and things__________________

Got Photoshop trial but trying to figure out how to save it in a format to save and share

Well the easy way to do it is to press the C button(that stands for the crop tool that you can find on the left side of the screen,right click on the photo and select 1x1[square],then move that selection on what you want to be your icon of the photo,right click again and select crop).After that go to Image(upper side of the screen to your left),select Image Size,type in those boxes width=100 and height=100 and make sure pixels are selected and not percent in the boxes next to the one in which you typed the resolution.)
To save it,go to "File" select "Save As" and under the File Name you'll have Format,click on that and select the JPEG format,and then save. Hope it helped.  I'm not that good at explaining things.  |

I got all that but when it saves to my desktop its just the cropped and not my colouring changes or changes
 that's what my problem isI made two icons tonight which are below but no customize, just cropped... I spoke too soon  __________________

Maybe it has something to do with the Trial version of it.
 Never used that one so I might be wrong tho.  |

 cause the one was able to save properly my changes then the other just saves the cropped __________________

Maybe it was something you did wrong,or the Trial version has some restrictions,I have no idea.The best is to go for the Full Version.
