No. I'm not good enough for that at all. I like working with Photoshop but being a graphic designer for real includes a great deal more. Also, there are weeks or even months when I don't feel like opening Photoshop at all. That would be a disaster if I did this for a living.

When did you start making graphics? Why?
I guess that was around... May 2006. I had just gotten to know Jule (Endless Fighter and holy crow, we have our 4 year anniversary this year /offtopic) on another message board and I was betaing her fanfictions. I wanted to write, too, but it was custom for that message board that each fanfiction thread has a header/banner in the OP of the fanfic. There were loads of talented people but I wanted to make my own (and it was sucky, believe me). Another friend on that board had been working with Photoshop Elements and PSP for a while then and when I couldn't really figure out Gimp (it's a lovely program but it's got a gazillion windows) she lent me her copy of PSE to try it out. That's how it all started. I made crappy banners for my own fanfictions and then I moved over to icons and steadily worked myself up to where I am now.

Do you ever make graphics in the movie genre? If so, post some.
Mostly icons, but I did make some banners/wallpapers for Twilight. The interest/request icons often include movies. (Sorry for the hugeness of this post XD, I went a bit overboard with this.)

Love Actually

Gorgeous artworks, Isa. Love the coloring on some of the icons.

Do you do other medias such as photography, painting, drawing? If so, show some.

No. No way. No. I think I would consider photography but for that I'd need a decent camera first. Painting and drawing gets a big No though. I can't draw or paint to save my life. Even my stick figures look horrible.

I looked through some threads for this. I don't usually go in threads unless I want to post there, so this took a while.
I love these by queen.blair and I don't even watch the show but they're very beautiful.
These by Edelyn are rather old but they're simple pretty. Reminds me that I should watch GG again sometime soon.

Anything you want to share with us?
Actually, not right now. I've just recently posted my last batch of icons at my graphics comm and haven't really gotten down to make anything else. But I always appreciate suggestions.

Not exactly. I just usually go through the following steps (in that order);

- cutting
- resizing
- positioning
- colouring
- background/brushes/textures
- layer effects (both on pics and brushes, if I use them)
- text
- fiddle around with all of it

Some do it differently but I find that it works for me. It's always the same steps that I go through. Also, if I do critical erasing (like the edge of a person), I find that sometimes I can work better with my touchpad than with my mouse.

I had to go look for those because I cleaned my Photobucket a couple weeks ago.

This is the oldest stuff I can find. It's from 2005 or 2006, I think.

Great answers and lovely artwork, Isa

What artwork did you work on for many hours?

Those artworks are still rather nice.

Any words of wisdom to someone who may want to apply to the Graphics Team?

Jack/Irina. It's an older one and I made it when I wasn't quite as experienced and quick with Photoshop.

Any words of wisdom to someone who may want to apply to the Graphics Team?
  • Read the post in Jen's livejournal (right now it's linked in the announcement). It's very helpful and following it already rules out a lot of common mistakes that applicants might make (such as the problem with blending).
  • Don't fret! When you have sent in your application, there's no reason to be nervous. It takes as long as it takes. Just because it takes a long time doesn't mean your application will be rejected.
  • Don't think too badly of yourself, you'll only make yourself go crazy (yes, Rella, I'm speaking of you).
  • Watercolour brushes! They are awesome and we love them. A lot. Like, a lot.
I think that's it.

I'm not sure. The people, I'd say. I found so many new friends through GT, it's awesome. And voting. I absolutely LOVE the polls. It's silly how hyped up I can get when polls are put up to vote for the graphics. Also, GT is a really good incentive for me. I wouldn't ever open Photoshop if I didn't have to do my work for GT. I love that it gives me something to do and that I am told what to do instead of my usual sitting in front of the laptop, pondering what on earth I could possibly graphic-ize.

Post your favorite black and white graphic you've made.

They're the back and front covers of a fanmix I made. I don't have many b/w graphics but I really like this one.

Favorite color graphic?

I put a lot of work into this one and I was very happy with how it turned out. I'm usually not comfortable with working on such a large canvas, especially with several different pictures. But I had an idea for this one and it turned out pretty.
