What I kind of missed in season one is the reveal that she and her family are aliens.

my guess is that they'll say jonah is an alien and karolina is 1/2 alien. i thought jonah was meant to be the gibborim but who knows.

When I read the original character description that was put out for the show where I live, it stated karolina as being an alien who doesn't know her real origin.

Isn't there in the comics a whole storyline about her love to another alien who can shift it's gender who was promised to her before her birth? I mean that storyline would lose it's meaning if they didn't go the comic route.

It always sucks that because all these different Marvel properties are owned by different companies that they can't really interact. At least the MCU has a lot of films/shows connected.
