V: The Series Campaign Thread - Join The Resistance!

“V” is a re-imagining of the 1980’s miniseries about the world’s first encounter with an alien race in which the aliens call themselves The Visitors, and have a seemingly friendly agenda that may or may not be a cover for something more malevolent.

ABC Summary

Today, the world woke up to find spaceships over every major city. The Visitors claim to have come in peace, bringing gifts of medical miracles and technological breakthroughs. They promise to do no harm. They're lying.

Most people believe the aliens have arrived just when we needed them most. We're eager to embrace their generous offers of help, but while tracking a terrorist cell, Homeland Security agent Erica Evans stumbles upon something far more sinister. Erica discovers that the aliens have plans to infiltrate our governments and businesses, planting seeds for their plot to control mankind. Convincing anyone of the truth will be impossible because the Visitors have two powerful weapons. First, they've given the people faith with their reassuring presence and gifts. Second, they've rallied our youth. Thousands of teens, including Erica's son, have been recruited as 'Peace Ambassadors' but they're actually serving as unwitting spies. When Erica gets thrust into the resistance movement, she'll have to balance her covert activities with her job and her role as a mother, fighting to protect her son Tyler - even as he joins forces with the enemy.

“V” stars Elizabeth Mitchell as Erica Evans, Morris Chestnut as Ryan Nichols, Joel Gretsch as Father Jack Landry, Lourdes Benedicto as Valerie Stevens, Logan Huffman as Tyler Evans, Laura Vandervoort as Lisa, with Morena Baccarin as Anna and Scott Wolf as Chad Decker.

The show will premiere on ABC on November 3, 2009 at 8 PM.

Welcome to the thread siobeehan. I'll add you right now.

I can't wait for it either. I think I've never been this excited for a new TV show. Every pilot review I've read was incredibly positive and especially Liz and Morena have been getting praise all over the place.

Thank you so much for starting the campaign thread and for all work you put in the opening post, Alex! It looks awesome.
Love the nice touch of the red "V"s.

Add me, please?

I was ready to give a try to this show no matter what because of Elizabeth, but the longer trailer made me pretty excited. I hope the series it's good.

I haven't been this excited for a new show for a while either - Pushing Daisies was probably the last time! The reviews have been amazing so far, which is so great to see just for a pilot. I really hope it's well received by the audience too.

I have to admit before I saw the trailer I was incredibly scared that the show was going to suck. But now I'm pumped. The ABC summary sounds very intriguing as well.

Me too. I still remember that Pushing Daisies was a critics and industry fave (I think they got nominated for 9 Emmys), but it was never able to catch on with the viewers. I think they barely made it above the 5 million viewers mark.

It's a shame that ABC is the only network which hasn't released their midseason schedule yet. I need to know if they will give the show a good time slot or not. The last thing I've heard is that they might air it on Wednesdays at 8 PM, but that depends on the success of ABC's upcoming comedy blog in the fall. The only thing I am sure of is that they will pair V with Lost, which is fine by me as long as Lost does not function as V's lead-in. For some reason the time slot right behind Lost has proven to be a death slot in recent years.

You put together an excellent OP, really.
And the V logo on top is a great replacement for a banner.
It would be nice to have some art and icons for the campaign, I suck at graphics so maybe it's better to wait for someone talented to join us.

Yeah, I don't want a The Unusuals/Harold 2.0. situation with V/Elizabeth, but there is a big possibility ABC will try to do the same thing a second time, IM;O, so... let's keep our fingers crossed.

Alex, do you plan to submit "V" in the polls when we get closer to the airdate and have some more supporters for the campaign?

Welcome to the thread Jillian and LostEvi

Another positive comment about "V" I stumbled upon this morning on Google news:

The 10 Most Promising Upcoming TV Shows - TheCinemaPost.com
Quote:
1. V (ABC)

Usually we are not that much into remakes of popular movies or tv franchises, simply because it’s usually a sign of creative desperation. Just look at The CW’s overwhelmingly desperate attempts to gain glory by remaking FOX’s signature teen shows from the early 90s. In the case of ABC’s “V”-remake however, we feel surprisingly optimistic. It’s easier to re-imagine a sci-fi-concept for a new decade, because that particular genre offers more opportunities than most other genres. As Ronald D. Moore’s “Battlestar Galactica” proved successfully, you can take a dated franchise and create an entirely new world out of it, while at the same time making it contemporary by adding themes that play a huge part in our society now. The first footage we have seen of “V” makes us confident that the show will do just that and if that is not enough the show features a stellar cast of actors that includes Lost’s Elizabeth Mitchell, Firefly’s Morena Baccarin, Party Of Five’s Scott Wolf and The 4400’s Joel Gretsch.

Yup. And according to the Hollywood Reporter V is the most popular new show amongst international buyers. It has already been officially picked up in Argentina and Australia.

Well, it's fine as long as they don't use Lost as the lead-in. V on Wednesdays at 8 PM and Lost at 9 would be perfect.

Yup, that's the plan. I don't think it makes all that much sense to submit the show for the polls until we have at least 10 supporters. Especially because the request becomes inelligable if we were to get less than 10 votes. That's something I don't want to risk.

I have also found a new piece of info regarding V. According to Marti Resteghini's from HDFilms V will start shooting in August. So it looks like we'll have to wait quite some time until we start to get some spoilers. And sadly it also doesn't leave Liz much room to film Lost. Not that I ever expected anything else, but in light of Steve McPherson's and other media outlets pimpage it stings nonetheless.

Some more V news:

WB TV rings in scribe Bell

Writer signs overall deal with studio

Scribe Jeff Bell has signed an overall deal at Warner Bros. Television, where he'll serve as showrunner for the studio's upcoming ABC drama "V."
As part of the two-year, seven-figure deal, Bell will focus his attention immediately on "V," but he will also work on development down the road.

"Like many people, I have fond memories of whatching the original miniseries," Bell said. "And to see how they did it now, it's epic. (Exec producer/scribe) Scott Peters did a fantastic job relaunching it. It seems like there are so many ways that you could go with this story."

Bell was busy Wednesday meeting with the show's new writing staff. The challenge now, he said, is to map out what direction "V" might take over the next several seasons.

Just as the original "V" used the story of an alien invasion as an allegory for Nazi Germany, the new "V" will tackle issues of government, devotion, race and faith.

"Especially when you look at our current times, with the economy, wars and social strife, it's the perfect time for a force like this to come along," Bell said. "In many ways this is a very American show, about the individual vs. society. It's about how America can appreciate and question things that seem to be too good to be true."

Alphabet has 13 episodes of "V" on tap for this year; show is set to launch sometime after January.

ABC Entertainment prexy Steve McPherson told reporters last month that "V" will have a set beginning, middle and end - allowing the show's producers to properly map out the entire series mythology, something that the net's "Lost" pioneered when it set a finale date in stone several years ago.

In the case of "V," the show will expand and contract by season - some seasons may consist of 13 episodes, some may last longer.

"I've been on a bunch of serialized shows now, and it helps the audience to know that this is what you're in for, and this is how and when it's going to end," Bell said. "We've been talking about it in terms of installments, either by chapters or seasons. We'll build this first season to a big conclusion that is hopefully awesome, with a cliffhanger that launches you into the second season."

Bell is familiar with such a setup; he most recently served as exec producer on CBS' "Harper's Island," another serialized drama that had a pre-determined ending episode.

Prior to his Warner Bros. TV deal, Bell was set up at ABC Studios/Touchstone. At the Alphabet, he exec produced "Daybreak" and "Alias."

Bell's other credits include "Angel," where he worked his way up to exec producer, and "The X-Files."

On "V," he'll serve as an exec producer alongside Scott Peters (who penned the pilot), Jason Hall and Steve Pearlman. Yves Simoneau directed and exec produced the pilot.

"Scott and Steve have treated me as a partner in this, helping to shape this series," Bell said.

A reinterpretation of the 1980s miniseries, "V" centers on aliens who invade Earth with a message of peace -- but whose motives aren't as pure as they let on. Stars include Elizabeth Mitchell, Morris Chestnut and Scott Wolf.

Thanks for all the news, you guys! I love that there is already so much positive buzz around V already, it's so great to see. I too hope that it doesn't fall into the same trap Pushing Daisies did though, because that was another amazing and critically loved show that was cruelly cancelled. I guess we can only wait and see though.

Jeff Bell has a really good track record, so I hope that bodes well for the show too.

I'm still waiting to see if the UK are going to pick it up anytime soon, since other countries are already getting it! I don't really know how it all works though, so it could be a while.

So does Lost start filming around that time too? I really want to hope that there will be time for her to do both, especially because of the exec's comments and her own admission that she "could do both", but I'm still very worried.

I'm still waiting for the show to get picked up in Germany. I may hate the dubbing and will definitely download and watch V as soon as it comes out in early 2010, but I would still like to have it as an alternative on those nights when there's nothing of interest on the telly. It will most likely be picked up by Pro Sieben and they cancel shows willy nilly, so it wouldn't make sense to get invested in the dubbed version anyway.

Yes. Lost starts filming in August too.

The biggest problem regarding Juliet's future on Lost in light of Liz's role in V is the following IMO. Liz doesn't play any one character in V. Liz plays Erica Evans and Erica Evans is for V what Sydney Bristow was for Alias, Melinda Gordon is for Ghost Whisperer or Allison Dubois is for Medium. The whole plot is build around her character. She won't be able to just take off and fly over to Hawaii as soon as Lost comes calling because she will be featured heavily in every single episode of this show. So even if Juliet were to survive Liz would probably not be on Lost enough to do a Juliet is alive story justice. It wouldn't be about Juliet and her issues (Ben, Sun, pregnancies, Rachel etc.). She would most likely only come back to give Sawyer or Jack a quick fix at the very end of the series and this might be an unpopular opinion, but I think this is totally unworthy of her character. As a former series regular who once upon a time used to have a story of her own she deserves better than to become Penny 2.0. JMO.
