It was very daft! They should have stuck with having only two films for The Hobbit, and not had one with so much filler and stupid things going on. I love Peter Jackson, but sometimes his sequences just go on far too long.

I love Billy Connally (? can't spell his name) too, but his scene was just so stupid Thranduil was amazing though. "I am patient I can wait" was so majestic

I actually think the hobbit films are pretty good.
Though I don't think I ever got the chance to see the 3rd one.

I joined FF back when the LOTR movies were airing. I think that was the only board I was active on then. There was a thread, I think it was called 'Undying Love' that was for Legolas x Arwen...I was active there. Well, I was young.

I agree that that Hobbit movies weren't very good. Tolkien knew how to balance the silliness with the more serious in The Hobbit book, I don't think they captured that in The Hobbit movies. I liked the beginning of the first movie and that was about it. But I also agree that Thranduil was well done, a nice contrast to the other elves we've met, the same way he seemed different in the book.

Would you like adding to the list? As much as i love everything about this franchise, the hobbit films felt so silly to me. He had an evil tone in the book, if i remember correctly? And this came across amazingly on screen. Lee pace did brilliant.

I've just spent the best part of 5 hours making a board guide and it's not even finished it's in the OP. I'll make a banner when it seems likely to open.

Nice board guide. You've worked hard on that!

You know what, after finding all the relevant characters, i realised i could have copied and pasted the old board guide.

Great Guide my only suggestion is that if you are doing character threads from both LoTR and the Hobbit - maybe two different catergoies unless keeping it Hobbit to a single thread

Don’t see why we can’t expand it to be both franchanises

^ The old board did the same thing. It's easier and less cluttered to keep them together, especially since characters cross over such as legolas/bilbo.

And if you look all the franchises are in there?

What do you mean expand? All six films are listed in the BG under movies. There's no more films to expand.

If you look at the BG it is in sections of movies, books, tv. Just because the campaign is called LOTR it's not just for LOTR. The OP states it's for ALL Tolkien works. So anything within Middle Earth is welcome here.

IMO there's no point having LOTR characters under an LOTR section and Hobbit under Hobbit and Book characters under books... Because Gandalf crosses over all three and we won't have three gandalf threads. The character threads are in alphabetical order, so whether a member is coming to look for a book character or hobbit character they will find them a lot quicker than having to go through 4 separate parts of the guide.

Thank you. It's 90% the same as the old one, just neater in terms of structure. For example: The movies and books have been moved above games because they're more important and I've added in a milestone section (annual and post count milestone).

LotR Introduction & Board Thread Guide #2 (Last Updated:04/8/015)

Still kept all the same content. I've missed a few characters off, but will add them in soon.

That makes sense to me.
