We’re guessing this is the big Designated Survivor twist Kiefer Sutherland’s been alluding to: Natascha McElhone, who plays first lady to Sutherland’s POTUS on the ABC thriller, is departing the series in Season 2, TVLine has confirmed.

According to Deadline, which first broke the news of McElhone’s exit, the actress will immediately jump from Designated Survivor to The First, Hulu’s upcoming Sean Penn drama set on Mars.
It’s not clear when McElhone’s Designated Survivor swan song will air, but it’s likely to be sooner vs. later since The First starts production later this fall. That would sync up with the tease Sutherland dropped last May about “a midseason event that I believe will knock the socks off our audience.” (TVLine has since confirmed that said event will occur in Episode 10.

Seeing the stroryline with The first lady at her mother , will most Likely lead to the reason she’s( first lady ) leaving, as per The current storyline . To me anything that would lead to her mother being in danger of being Charged of any crime from 25 years ago, The president would Automatically pardon her for any crimes.

holy sh** first lady is gone just got exonerated from FBI investigation, riding the SUV with two there SUV then wham huge Tractor trailer slams into the car knocking not sideways . Mike is in the front he falls lout injured but ok, other SS rush to the car we the look on on his face as he checks on first lady it is shock horror , We never see her or what massive injury she sustained .. Meanwhile President kirkman has left a hospital where he was checking on infant (long plot line( he gets call then no sound only music he drops to his knees screaming in sorrow .. cut to dark ..
