Chris Pine Confirms His ‘Wonder Woman’ Role: ‘I’m Super Excited’ | Chris Pine, Gal Gadot, Wonder Woman : Just Jared

Chris Pine has finally confirmed that he will be starring in Wonder Woman opposite Gal Gadot! The 35-year-old actor has been rumored to be starring in the film, but DC Comics never officially confirmed the news. “I’m not allowed to tell you much. I’m super excited, of course. Gal Godot is super talented and [director] Patty Jenkins is going to deliver. What excites me the most is to get to be in a film with a female super hero. With a woman in the lead role. I’m teamed with an intelligent, beautiful strong woman to destroy evil and save humanity. You know, the routine,” Chris told French publication Premiere (translated by USA Today). Wonder Woman will hit theaters on June 23, 2017.

Star Trek: Beyond - Is Captain Kirk going evil? | moviepilot.com

It's that time of year again folks - the time where rumors run rampant as information about upcoming films slowly hits the internet, and the third installment in the Star Trek series, titled Star Trek Beyond, is no exception. But with such a vague title, what will the actual plot entail? To answer that, we must examine a few key pieces of information we already know.

Spock and Bones Team-Up

In Star Trek TOS, the classic trio was always Kirk, Spock and Bones. But with the two most recent adaptations of the series showing mainly Kirk's relationship with both characters, we haven't actually seen much interaction between Spock and Bones. That is, until now.

"Quinto, while promoting his new film Hitman: Agent 47, spoke to The Telegraph more about how he had grown close to Nimoy (and his family), prior to his passing. He also revealed that in Star Trek Beyond, most of Mr. Spock’s scenes will pair him alongside Dr. McCoy/Bones (Karl Urban)."
This is very exciting for fans worldwide, but it leaves us with an interesting question; why would two characters so polar opposite be spending so much time together in the third film? I mean sure, they're on a 5 year journey of exploration throughout space, but that's not enough to justify most of Spock's scenes being paired with Bones. And with a new director Simmon Pegg (Scotty) at the helm of this film coupled with the 50th anniversary of Star Trek: TOS approaching, we may have our answer....

Captain Kirk Has Gone Rogue

With the Star Trek: Into Darkness ending with Kirk's surviving by being injected by Khan's blood, Bone's questioned the captain as to whether he was experiencing any side affects - in particular, mental ones. Side affects basically asked Kirk if the injection warped his mind like Khan's, to which Kirk replies he is fine. But with the unlikely duo of Spock and Bones teaming up, I now believe that Khan's blood has permanently changed Kirk forever mentally and physically. But never fear - I have more evidence to support this.

Star Trek: The Original Series Influence


With the 50th anniversary practically here, director Pegg has stated he will be paying homage to the series in this upcoming third installment. Now obviously the second film was based upon Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, but the ending we got this time around was quite different from it's predecessor's.

At the end of The Wrath of Khan, Spock was "dead", but in the third movie, titled Star Trek III: The Search For Spock, we learned his spirit was actually very much alive - just trapped inside Bones' body. Bones' begins acting strange, eventually leading the crew to this discovery.

Now, if Pegg is paying homage to Star Trek: TOS in Beyond, Spock should be making Bones' act all crazy, right? No - Spock never died due to himself (older version) revealing information to change the fate of the battle against Khan, and so Spock never died - Kirk did. Being brought back to life with the cells of a psychopathic killing machine, it seems much more plausible that Kirk will in fact be the one who is losing his mind. So while the original title of Star Trek III was 'The Search For Spock', it seems Star Trek: Beyond will be themed around the search for Kirk. But wait - there's more.

Khan Is Alive


They never killed Khan at the end of Into Darkness. Instead, the froze him along with the 72 others just like him in cryo-stasis. This may be a tremendous clue at Kirk's upcoming change from the injection as neither Spock nor Bones would be equipped to deal with Kirk, let alone save him, forcing them to turn to Khan for help. After all, it was his blood that is doing this to Kirk, right? So the only logical answer to save him would be the test on the subjects they have that have the same blood. Or, they could simply just awaken Khan and/or the rest of them and exchange their freedom for a cure to Kirk's current condition. Either way, I have a feeling that Spock's logical side will point him in this direction and Bones' medical side will force him to do the same, further explaining why they will be spending so much time teaming up. Idris Elba

As Cinema Blend tells us,

"I think ‘Star Trek’ has prided themselves as being quite classic when it comes to villains, like ‘he’s a guy who wants to end the world,’ there’s no doubt about that. But in this version of the film, there’s a slightly different twist to that. It’s quite an interesting journey, which I think is groundbreaking for the franchise. But, it still keeps with the ‘classic bad guy is a classic bad guy’ tone."

Now it has also been announced that the film will feature an entire new race of aliens, and since the Enterprise is on it's exploration mission to go where no man has gone before, why would this villain want to eradicate Earth? Well, the answer I came up with is Kirk, having gone crazy from the Khan blood cells within him, does something to Elba's character and his people, possibly even destroying their home world, which in turn would send Elba's character out on a path of revenge to destroy Kirk and his home world. This story line would match Elba's description of a classic bad guy who wants to end the world, but with a twist.

To Wrap It All Up

So essentially, I think Kirk is going to be the one to cause Elba's character to go all "end-of-the-world" bad guy due to side effects from Khan's blood. The Enterprise is on it's 5 year journey to go where no man has gone before, so we will most likely see a time jump from where the second film left off. And since we know Elba's character is part of a new alien race, it would make sense that the "twist" he speaks of is Kirk going crazy and attacking or destroying his people, causing Elba to retaliate by doing the same to Kirk's home - Earth. Let's not forget Spock and Bones' - they will be spending a lot of time together, after all, which leads me to believe that Kirk has to have gone rogue and that the two will be doing everything in their power to save him (even working with Khan and the other 72 enhanced to fix him) as well as fighting for their planet's survival. Finally, with the 50th anniversary approaching and Pegg stating he will be paying homage to the original series in this upcoming third installment, it makes sense that the "Search For Spock" would turn into a "Search For Kirk" kind of story.

These questions and more will all be answered when the film premiers in theaters July 22, 2016.
