Julie, winter is near already so yeah...
Pia, I love that kind of weather too. Si, yeah I was getting irritated with all the coughing plus it's embarrassing at work. __________________

Yes, winter is definitely on its way. Our clocks go back an hour this weekend so we gain an extra hour.

Is this the DST thing? I'm always confused by that.

Yes. We call DST British Summer Time (BST). It starts at the end of March, lasts for 7 months, then we go back to GMT at the end of October.

Lindsay, it is kind of confusing. I believe it was historically done for farming reasons. And it's done now so people will get an extra hour of sunlight. As it gets colder, the days (ie time when the sun is out) get shorter. And doing this makes the day a little longer for people. I barely understand it, and google isn't helping me much. __________________

Julie, how long is BST? I'm more familiar with GMT at least which is longer?
Pia, yeah it's something about the amount of sunlight. I live in the Philippines so we don't have this. 6AM we already have sun and the sun sets at 6PM. Then I go to Singapore (where we don't have a time difference) and the sun there sets at 8PM. We also get longer nights during the -ber months and I get confused when I wake up at 6AM and it's still dark out but by 6:30 AM the sun's up already so we don't need to adjust our clocks at all. __________________

BST lasts for 7 months. I like having lighter evenings during BST.

I don't keep track of it though. I always forget about it until the day or week before. __________________

Julie, wow. I had no idea BST is 7 months there.
Sam, you get DST over there too? Pia, that's how I understand it too. It makes sense for countries up near the North. I do remember having to adjust to the time again whenever we talk to relatives in the West Coast where we are now 15+ hours ahead of them. Have a great weekend everyone! It's the weekend before Halloween. I'm not dressing up but my nephew is super excited about it. __________________

It can be complicated to work out the time differences between countries. USA change their clocks on a different day than we do so that can create a problem.
Happy weekend, everyone. I'm not dressing up for Halloween either. |

I told my manager I'd dress up for Halloween tomorrow. But I'm coming off of a 14 hour shift. And I'm opening tomorrow morning. So if I do something it'll be simple and lazy.
