Yes he did and I think people keep forgetting that Superman Returns was suppose to be a tribute to Superman: The Movie....
It technically was suppose to be a tribute/continuation of it... which actually make sense.

If you watch Superman Returns after Superman II, you will see how it's suppose to pay homage to that.

I'll admit that John Constantine is a character I never really focused much on...
