To me this doesn't seem like the Batman universe Joker. More like a random guy who works as a clown and loses his mind more and more cause of society. That's the vibe I got from the trailer.

Joker is a comedian also in the comics? I don't remember that, but then again there is so many versions of each comic book character throughout the years.

I think it's true though, the batman universe joker in the DCEU is the jared leto one.

I think of the DCEU Joker as separate than this Joker since they're written very differently, so I'm keeping them separate in my head.

Yeah, it was kind of his accepted backstory after Alan Moore did a graphic novel in 1988 about him called 'The Killing Joke.' And this movie is set in the 1980s, so it seems to follow that.
