He is actually a young boy, who is struck by a thunderbolt and turned into a man. (Shazam! tv series)
In general though, thanks to a wizard who choose him as the champion after meeting Billy.
So, he has the power of Gods.

All he has to do is say the word Shazam! to keep changing from boy to man.

Shazam! has existed for a very long time.

He's existed before most of the DC characters you know today.

So yes, Shazam! is technically his secret is that he's really a kid.

yeah, film heroes are always going to be different than the comic counterparts, and tbh that makes it more interesting, to both readers and viewers. a lot of fantastical comic elements could never be satisfactorily translated to the silver screen, so movies always tend to be a bit grounded in reality and science, at least within the confines of todays pc computing power for cgi and rendering. perhaps someday, when computers are in the quantum processing realm, maybe that fantastic realm will be viewing reality...
