I think Parliament didn't want his name on the royal family at all at that time. Over time their ideas evolved and they allowed the hybrid name as times changed.

yeah it did, but I think as a wife you want his name as well? At least that's how it normally goes in weddings

I think it's starting to become more common for women to not take their husband's last name after marriage.
