I've read that the group Mall scenes are more likely to come later in the season, so I want to see Jonathan and Steve engage in some sort of brotherly hug by the end of it

It's a damn shame that Joe and Charlie's friendship chemistry off screen has not been utilized so far on screen

Hopefully, Season 3 turns that around.

There's no reason why Jonathan and Steve can't be friends at this point. Steve isn't a bully anymore, he's on good terms with the Byers as far as we can tell, and he's accepted Jonathan's romance with Nancy so the Stonathan bromance is long overdue

I agree. I was so sure that TPTB would make them on friendly or at the very least friend-ish after the season one finale, but it didn't happen. I hope we'll get to see them on more friendly terms in season three.
