he is part of the main cast
he is not just Jane's love interest/husband,
he always has his own storyline because he is a detective

I know,but some of the more rabid shippers need a reason to hate on him. It's why I don't like posting much on the couples board. People forget about the characters and their identities versus their role as an LI.

Michael brings the audience in for the cop/drug cartel storyline. He's the companion for that storyline and the only one. So they aren't gong to get rid of him.

I just can't see them killing off the main character's husband on their wedding night right before their first time together.

The thing I love about Michael, is he behaved like a jerk in moments of season one. But he saw that wasn't working, so he learned from his actions/behavior, improved, grew, and owns up to what he was. I always respect when someone owns up to who they are and what they did, even if they continue to act in some same faction. They are taking responsibility and acknowledging what happen.

I guess that's why Michael and Petra are two of my favorite. Because they have both owned up to a lot.

^ that's so true and what I've also believed. Michael didn't magically become "perfect"
but he reacted to such extreme circumstances in a very human way.
