What Players Do You Dislike, But Would Love to Have On Your Team?

Are there any athletes that you can’t stand, but conversely would love to have on your team? You know, it’s one of those Catch-22 deals. I’m sure all of us have a few of those individuals in mind. Go ahead and share them with us.

Here are a few on my list:

Barry Bonds- I don’t personally care for his surly attitude or hypocritical nature (he balks when an opposing pitcher doesn’t show respect, but then shows the ultimate form of disrespect when it comes to Babe Ruth), but you can’t argue that he’s one of the best, if not *the* best, player of his generation. He ranks right up there with the greatest of all-time. When all is said and done, Bonds will rank at the top of most statistical categories. No other play can change the course of a game quite like Barry. And the fact that he’s only getting better with age makes his numbers that much more incredible. I would still like to see him improve his postseason numbers, though.

Shaquille O’Neal- I can no longer take Shaq seriously. Some of the idiotic things he says and does just makes me laugh. I’ve always viewed him as an oversized goof who gets away with A LOT of crap in the lane simply due to his massive size. Refs don’t know how to officiate someone of his size and post moves. That definitely works in his favor. No one can match up with Shaq down low. When motivated and in shape, Shaq is undoubtedly the most dominant player in the league. Who wouldn’t want that type of player on their team?

Brett Favre- The fact that he is a Packer makes me automatically dislike him. Being a Bears fan who has watched him single-handedly walk right over this team, I can’t help but wish he get flattened. Heh. But I have a lot of respect for Favre as a QB. He’s largely responsible for the success the Cheeseheads have experienced over the years. I can only imagine how much better the Bears would have been the past ten years with a smart, talented and gutsy QB like Favre.

Jeremy Shockey- He can be a complete tool at times, but I love the intensity and bad ass mentality he brings to the football field. Honestly, I think he was a bit overrated last season. Todd Heap and Tony Gonzalez put up better numbers. But when it comes to pure talent and showmanship, there are few better than Shockey. Hopefully, he’s able to put his money where his mouth is this season.

I love shockey, hes the best.

Shaq - I feel he is just a big fat guy that should of played football, and just played basketball cuz he was so big. But he wins championships.

Karl Malone - I dont really like or care for him much. But he is consistent

Brett Favre - I hate him. Just really hate him. But if I had a team and he was a willing free agent.

John Rocker - Haha, I dont know.

Great topic! There's a few players out there I can't stand but would love if they were on my team.

Tracy McGrady: Or as I like to call him Tracy McBaby, or T-Wack. Ever since he left the Raptors for the Magic I've had nothing but HATE for Tracy (what's up with the girl's name, anways? )! It hurt even more seeing him blossom into a superstar. I just can't help but wonder what it would have been like if Vince and T-Wack had played side by side like Jordan and Pippen. No doubt Toronto would be running things in the East!

Shaq O'Neal: I just can't stand this guy. I don't know whether it's his attitude, or whether it's the fact that he's unstoppable. I just hate it when players step on the floor and just punish your players. Having Shaq on your team would be the ultimate luxury. Just sit back and dump it to him in the post and 9 times out of 10 he'll score.

I sense bitterness about T-Mac. Hmm, I wonder why?

It’s one thing to watch him blossom into a superstar with another team. But not to get anything in return? That's just sad. Raptors management knew McGrady was leaving for greener pastures. Hell, everyone knew he was leaving town! They should have traded him and gotten something of value in return when they had the chance. Instead, it was a brief three-year stay with nothing to show for it.

John Rocker? I also hate that bigoted, racist punk. I wouldn't want him on my team, though. Is he even in the majors anymore? The last I heard he was bouncing in between the big leagues and AAA.

Man, I thought this was a brilliant idea for a topic. Apparently its not as popular as i thought it was going to be.

Also, I want to add:

Steve Mcnair - Took my oilers away from houston.

Eddie George - Booooo! Traiter!

I hate the titans cuz they used to be the oilers. I was so happy they lost that superbowl, but still mad that they got that far.

absolutely cannot stand Wayne Carey (used to play for Kangaroos -AFL, now plays for Adelaide)
he is just such an arrogant cocky bastard, not to mention the scandals over his affair that destroyed his family...but to the point, he is not a human being i could ever associate with or have any respect for....But he's an amazing footballer. great athlete and great for the game, but cannot stand the man!!!

Steph?!!! Long time, no see! It’s nice to see you posting here again. How’s life treating you? I hope everything is going well.

E Gro- You hate McNair and George for leaving town? Aww, poor guys! They had no say in that move. Or maybe I’m misinformed and they lobbied to move to Tennessee. Did that happen? And, yeah, I’m sure you weren’t too happy to witness the “Music City Miracle.” At least St. Louis put the kabosh on the Titans’ SB dreams with that goal line stop. Dyson was *this* close.

Chris- You’re just a player hata’. I expected your response, though. You’re the only guy I know who would not draft top-notch players in a fantasy draft just because they play for a team/school that you hate. So you ended up with a bunch of Ex-Cincy scrubs. Thanks to you, I was able to pass off scrub Olowokandi for Elton Brand and win the NBA fantasy game. I’ve gotta say, you’re loyalty astounds me.

Has there been any players that you hated, and then he/she came to your team and your stance changed?

That’s happened only a few times with me. The one that stands out most is Dennis Rodman. I absolutely hated him and Laimbeer when they played for the “Bad Boy” Pistons. They were the dirtiest S.O.B’s I’d ever seen. Total cheap shot artists. I remember a play where Rodman pushed Pippen into the base of the backboard, with the intention of hurting Pip. Well, mission accomplished. Scottie had to get a few stitches. And then there were the numerous cheap shots he inflicted on MJ. But, when I heard that the Bulls had traded dud Will Perdue to S.A. for Rodzilla prior to the ‘95-’96 season, I was thrilled. If he’d be able to co-exist with Pip and MJ, I knew he would be just the down low enforcer the Bulls needed to win it all. Much to my surprise, Rodman was pretty tame with the on court antics during his days with the Bulls and he was very instrumental in helping the organization win three titles in a row.

For my first team, Real Madrid, it's rather impossible to think of a player like that. I think in the end I don't hate that many players that are so good that I couldn't find a player just as good, and that one being one that I didn't hate.

That's much easier to answer for me: Ronaldo. I really couldn't stand the guy after the 2002 WC. I guess my mind works in mysterious ways, but him going to the referees after that one game to ask for a goal to be changed from an own goal by the opponents (I think it was Costa Rica) to his name.. that really got my blood boiling a lot more than Rivaldo's antics against Turkey. Mainly because it's a freaking team game, it's the WC, it's supposed to be about your country, not you etc. And then this guy goes after the match to do that...

Anyways, certainly took me a long while to get over it.. And yeah, sure I understood that every goal he scored must have been very special to him because of the long injuries and the way the last WC ended for him, but still, it took time..

Erm...probably David Beckham. Cant stand him, but he is an amazing player.

Also, gotta agree about Ronaldo. I couldn't stand him since the wotld cup, but ever since his injuries and all the trouble hes had, ive grown to like him and admire him for never giving up.
