I wasn't able to see Serena's match, I really wonder HOW that happened.

Here is some news from in the last couple of days.

First of all in Washington D.C., Andy Murray defeated compatriot Kyle Edmund 7-6 (4), 1-6, 6-4. Good win for Andy, who building some positive momentum after his recent absence.

Also Caroline withdrew from the tournament due to an injury to her right leg. Disappointing early end for Caro, but it's better for her to take the needed precautions with the U.S. Open on the horizon. Plus in the schedule tomorrow, we'll get the first ever ATP match between the Zverev brothers.

Meanwhile In San Jose, we got a very shocking result yesterday as Johanna Konta routed Serena Williams 6-1, 6-0. This is quite a shocking result. You don't ever expect to see Serena get beaten this badly in a match.
I loved the Zverev brothers' match. Mischa didn't serve and volley as much as he usually did. I don't know if that was because he wasn't able to play the game he wanted or he chose not to do it.

It was surprising that Serena got beaten so badly. Well done to Konta for not letting up. She could have relaxed a bit and let Serena back in but that wouldn't have been a good idea.

I love that Serena got her ass kicked in that match.

Great win by Halep yesterday. She was mentally tough in that match, she really has improved her attitude over the last year.

Here is the latest update from the tour.

First of all in Toronto, Rafa defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-2, 7-6(4) to win the Toronto Masters.

Great win for Rafa, who captured his fourth Rogers Cup title, fifth title of the year and 33rd Masters 1000 title in his career.

Even though he came up short yesterday, Stefanos Tsitsipas had a great run in Toronto, defeating Nole, Sasha Zverev and Kevin Anderson.

In Montreal as mentioned earlier, Simona Halep defeated Sloane Stephens 7-6(6), 3-6, 6-4.

Great win for Simona, who really came through in a very tough match.

Also in the previous week's events; Sasha Zverev and Svetlana Kuznetsova won the Citi Open, Fabio Fognini won the Abierto de Tenis Mifel presentado por Cinemex, Martin Klizan won the Generali Open and Elise Mertens won the Silicon Valley Classic.

So that's the latest update from the tour.

Next up on the schedule this week will be the Western & Southern Open. Fed, Serena Williams and Andy Murray are scheduled to return to action in Cincinnati. However Rafa withdrew from the tournament to rest up for the U.S. Open, which denies us a Big 4 reunion. BTW here is the order of play for today's matches.

Here is an update from the finals in Cincinnati.

First of all in the men's singles final, Nole defeated Fed 6-4, 6-4.

Great win for Nole.

The sixth time proved to be the charm for Nole, who finally won his first title in Cincinnati and made yesterday as he became the first player to win the Golden Masters aka winning all of the Masters 1000 titles.

In the women's singles final, Kiki Bertens upset Simona Halep 2-6, 7-6(6), 6-2.

Great win for Kiki, who saved a match point and captured her first hard court title and the biggest title of her career to date.

Meanwhile in doubles, Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares won the men's title, while Lucie Hradecka and Ekaterina Makarova won the women's title.

So that's the story from Cincinnati.

Next up on the schedule this week will be the final warmup events, which are the Connecticut Open and the Winston-Salem Open.

In other news, Jo-Wilfried withdrew from the U.S. Open due to a knee injury that he had surgery for in April. Not much of a surprise there since Jo-Wilfried hasn't played since February. As disappointing as it is that he won't be playing in the U.S. Open, it's better for Jo-Wilfried to take his time recovering from this injury.
