it would have been nice to see john isner make a grand slam final

the long matches that he plays is case in point that he needs to adjust his game, hes having no issues holding serve, but an improvement of his returning game should not only shorten his matches, but see him progress further in grand slams?

its a big ask because his game is built on his serve, and hes not the most mobile of players?

Ms Cyatt 07-15-2018 07:04 AM

TFTNT!!

Yes I agree about John Isner needing to improve on his return game. But unfortuntely the big servers are taller guys so moving around is harder for them.

Also Congrats to Kerber on winning her first Wimbledon.

Sweet Embrace 07-15-2018 03:17 PM

I am so happy for Novak! After such a hard time coming back from injury, we never thought he would even make a second week of a grand slam let alone win a 13th! :thud:

Here is an update from the final day at Wimbledon.

First of all in the men's singles final, Nole defeated Kevin Anderson 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(3).

Great win for Nole, who finally ends his Grand Slam title drought.

http://www1.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/N...k4-T33l5xl.jpg
He played some of his best tennis in a while in the first two sets

http://www3.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/N...CByy893MIl.jpg
and did a good job of withstanding Kevin Anderson's revived play on the third set.

I'm really happy for Nole that he finally ended his Grand Slam title drought today. He had been through a lot with the injury with his elbow and it was so great to see him back in the winner's circle at the All England Club for the fourth time. With today's victory, Nole has moved past Roy Emerson for fourth place on the all time list for Grand Slam titles among men in the Open Era and is only one behind Pete Sampras for third place and still has a ways to go to catch up with Fed and Rafa.

As mentioned earlier, Angelique Kerber defeated Serena Williams to win the women's singles title yesterday.

Also happening yesterday, Mike Bryan and Jack Sock won the men's doubles title.

Great win for Mike and Jack. Mike also moving up the Grand Slam record book by capturing his 21st Grand Slam title, which moves him past Fed for second place among active men for most Grand Slam titles behind his brother Bob, who has 23 Grand Slam titles. BTW if you're wondering, Serena Williams has the most Grand Slam titles among all active players with 39 titles across all disciplines (i.e. singles, doubles and mixed doubles).

Also the Czech team of Barbora Krejčíková and Kateřina Siniaková won the women's doubles title, Alexander Peya and Nicole Melichar won the mixed doubles title, Tseng Chun-hsin won the boys singles title, Iga Świątek won the girls' singles title, Yankı Erel and Otto Virtanen won the boys doubles title and Wang Xinyu and Wang Xiyu won the girls doubles title.

So that's the story from the All England Club.

.

the thing is, kevin anderson is what john isner hopes he could be, tall guy with a big serve, but anderson moves around "reasonably ok", whereas isner is just an artillery tank launching missiles - launching being the operative word, when he hits them they dont come back. but the ones that come from him arent going back either :embarrassment:

and the record pretty much says it all - kevin anderson has made two grand slam finals whereas isner has yet to reach one

Sulieter 07-16-2018 01:11 AM

Thanks for the new thread and the round-up of results.

I wanted Anderson to win but it was great to see Djokovic so happy and his son was cute. :D

Sweet Embrace 07-16-2018 12:35 PM

There's a totally adorable video of Nole and Angie dancing at the champion ball too :) I am chuffed because I correctly predicted Angie winning the title  That never happens!

NikNak 07-16-2018 07:41 PM

Thanks for the new thread. :)

His son was adorable!

Congrats to Novak! I know it feels good for him and his fans to win this title.

Ms Cyatt 07-17-2018 08:49 AM

I knew Novak was going to win that semi final match. When it came to the 5th set I knew he'd get it done. I wasn't surprised how he played in the final. It's great to see Novak back.

NikNak 07-17-2018 10:36 AM

I like the title of this thread, although I was not a fan of Sampras. :)

It is good to see Novak doing well again.

canflam 07-17-2018 04:38 PM

I didn't see Novak's semifinal match, but I think generally when Nadal & him are both healthy their matches are tossups. That semifinal match that Anderson had vs. Isner was the longest in that semifinal history at Wimbledon. Just brutal. I don't understand the logic of having 4 straight sets end in a tie-break & then the final 1 without it, but that is the rules sadly. Oh well. Thanks for starting this thread.:)

Hot Rod 07-17-2018 07:40 PM

I forgot to post this earlier, but this week's events, which are in progress, are the Croatia Open Umag, the Hall of Fame Open in Newport, Rhode Island, the Swedish Open, the BRD Bucharest Open and the Ladies Championship Gstaad.

The win for Nole definitely feels good for us fans. Almost like a relief. Other people generally wrote him off
