Sad news that Andy Murray will be out for the next few months. I'm excited for the draw for the Australian Open to come out.

Thanks Hot Rod for posting the draws. There are some great first round matches! I hope Caroline Wozniacki and Mischa Zverev do well. __________________

Here's a quick update from the final warm up events.
First of all in Sydney, Daniil Medvedev and Angelique Kerber won the singles titles. In Auckland, Roberto Bautista Agut won the ASB Classic. Also in Hobart, Elise Mertens repeated as champion at the Hobart International. So that's the story from the final warm-up up events. Next up on the schedule will be the Australian Open. The first Grand Slam of the year gets underway later tonight in the Western Hemisphere with reigning US Open champion Sloane Stephens headlining the afternoon session along with Grigor Dimitrov, Jelena Ostapenko, Jack Sock, John Isner, Coco Vandeweghe, Marin Cilic, Kevin Anderson, Elina Svitolina, Gilles Muller and home country hero Samantha Stosur. Also we'll have a very intriguing looking match at Rod Laver Arena where Venus Williams will take on Belinda Bencic. Plus home country heroes Nick Krygios and Daria Gavrilova will be headlining the evening session along with former champion Rafa, Caroline and Jo-Wilfried. __________________

The US women are dropping like flies today!
In the first round. Most notably, (to me, since I do not like her) is Venus Williams. YES!!!!!!! Sloane is in a serious slump. CoCo did not look into it. ~ Thanks for the updates, Rod. __________________

I'm glad that Belinda Bencic won. She has been as high as no. 7 but has had some injuries.
Great results for Wozniacki and Edmund. I enjoyed the Nadal match. He won easily but Estrella Burgos was enjoying himself. It was a fun match. __________________

It was a fun match. The one game in the second set was the best when he broke Nadal! I just loved his energy. __________________

Thanks for helping out with the update.
It was a very dismal day for Team USA with US Open champion Sloane Stephens, Venus Williams, Coco Vandeweghe, John Isner and Jack Sock losing their matches. However Ryan Harrison defeated Dudi Sela in five sets and Nicole Gibbs routed Viktoriya Tomova 6-1, 6-1 to salvage the day. We got a couple of more upsets as Kaia Kanepi defeated Dominika Cibulkova 6-2, 6-2 and Kyle Edmund defeated Kevin Anderson 6-7(4), 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Things were more orderly in the other matches as Rafa, Caroline, Grigor Dimitrov, Jelena Ostapenko, Elina Svitolina, Nick Kyrgios and Jo-Wilfried won their matches in straight sets, while Marin Cilic won his match in four sets. So that's the story from Day 1 at the Australian Open. Coming up later tonight in Day 2; Nole, Maria, Stan, Karolina Pliskova, the Zverev brothers, Simona Halep, Johanna Konta, Angelique Kerber, Milos Raonic, Genie, Petra Kvitova, Dominic Thiem, Lucie Safarova, David Goffin, Madison Keys, Aga Radwanska, Richie and Sam Querrey will headline the afternoon session, while Fed, Garbine Muguruza, Delpo and home country favorite Ashleigh Barty will headline the evening session. __________________

It is great that he is back. Tennis definitely missed him.
Not a great start for the Australian Open for the Americans. __________________
