Here's an update from yesterday's and this morning's matches at the Australian Open.
First of all, we got a huge upset as Denis Istomin defeated Nole 7-6(8), 5-7, 2-6, 7-6(5), 6-4. What a great performance from Denis Istomin, who played the match of his life. He did a great job of coming through in the crucial moments of the match and showed a lot of composure. On the other hand, this is a big disappointment for Nole, who saw his quest for a 7th Australian Open title come to an early end. He wasn't able to find an answer to Denis Istomin's outstanding play. We got another upset on the women's side as veteran Mirjana Lucic-Baroni defeated Aga Radwanska 6-3, 6-2. Things were much more orderly in most of the other matches as Serena Williams, Rafa, Caroline, Johanna Konta, Dominika Cibulkova, Milos Raonic, Richie, Dr. Ivo and David Goffin won their matches in straight sets, while Gael, David Ferrer and Grigor Dimitrov won their matches in four sets. Lastly we got another big upset in men's doubles as Sam Querrey and Donald Young defeated Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares 6-3, 7-6(5). So that's the story from Day 4 in Melbourne where we saw one of the biggest upsets in recent time with Denis Istomin defeating Nole in five sets. Coming later today on Day 5, we'll have some intriguing looking matches in the afternoon session as Stan will take on Viktor Troicki at Rod Laver Arena, while Jo-Wilfried will face Jack Sock at Margaret Court Arena and Andy Murray will play Sam Querrey at Hisense Arena. Reigning women's singles champion Angelique Kerber, Genie, Venus Williams and Bernard Tomic will also be in action in the afternoon session. Then later on in the prime time session, we'll get another intriguing looking match as Fed will take on Tomas Berdych at Rod Laver Arena. Plus Kei Nishikori and Garbine Muguruza will also be in action at Margaret Court Arena. __________________

Here's an update from the Australian Open.
First of all in the featured prime time match at Rod Laver Arena, Fed defeated Tomas Berdych 6-2, 6-4, 6-4. Things were pretty orderly with some of the top stars as Angelique Kerber, Venus Williams, Kei Nishikori and Garbine Muguruza won their matches in straight sets, while Stan defeated Viktor Troicki 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(7); Svetlana Kuznetsova defeated Jelena Jankovic 6-4, 5-7, 9-7 and Coco Vandeweghe defeated Genie 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. Also Andy Murray defeated Sam Querrey 6-4 6-2 6-4; Jo-Wilfried defeated Jack Sock 7-6(4), 7-5, 6-7(8), 6-3 and in the lone upset of the day, Daniel Evans defeated Bernard Tomic 7-5, 7-6(2), 7-6(3). So that's the story from Day 5 in Melbourne. Coming up in just under an hour, Day 6 will get underway. First of all, we'll have some intriguing looking matches as Rafa will take on Alexander Zverev, Caroline will face Johana Konta, Gael will play Philipp Kohlschreiber and Milos Raonic will take on Gilles Simon. Serena Williams, Dominika Cibulkova, Karolina Pliskova and Dominic Thiem will also be in action in the afternoon. Later on in the evening session at Rod Laver Arena, hometown favorite Daria Gavrilova will face Timea Bacsinszky and Richie will play Grigor Dimitrov. __________________

That Nadal/Zverev match as absolutely phenomenal. What a sight to see! Congrats to Nadal for coming back from 2 sets to 1 and win the match. I always like to see him do well.

did anyone watch the dimitrov gasquet match?
It was on at "a reasonably good time" for both european (lunchtime) and American audiences (it was breakfast on the west coast of America) EDIT and less than 24 hours later, they have alexander zverev's brother take on another top seed, andy murray Mischa Zverev is 10 years older than Alexander Zverev EDIT and Mischa Zverev has upset Andy Murray in the Round of 16 to make the quarters! the top 2 seeds do not make it past the first week! __________________

Horrible losses by Andy & Caroline. At least Monfils is still in the tournament. Tough loss by Nishikori as well.

usually theres a bit of a lull at the start of the second week of the tournament, after all the locals are eliminated from the singles draw and how people process the top seeds getting picked off, we have to wait until the second men's singles semi final when the tournament picks up again

Monfils got off to a horrible start. It was very late on the West Coast, so I missed the set he won. Hopefully Raonic will have some success vs. Nadal tomorrow.
