I couldn't agree more Vicky.
What's there to compare when Roddick only ever won 1 GS title, and what Federer incidentally lost last year was the record, which he achieved this year as it was. This was Roddick's - what - 19th loss to Federer? He had tough rivals throughout the tournament, he upped his game and put on the game of his life on the final. He deserved that win, he deserved to have a Wimbledon trophy, he deserved to have HIS moment. We all knew Federer was gonna break that record, it wasn't even a question of when - more of a question of where.
So yeah, I'm still heartbroken, I totally understand and support ANY form of reaction Andy had to that loss. Seems like he's doing better now though, his twits are... happier

I think people miss the point of what Roger was trying to say. It wasn't so much just "I know what you're feeling", but more along the lines of acknowledging the fact that he too, had a crushing loss..and he came back to win it the next year, and that he knows Andy can do the same. WTF is wrong with that?

Andy quipping about "already having 5" is just Andy being Andy.

I dont understand. Stat for Stat, for the entire match Roger was ahead in practically everything. Did Andy play his best? Well, it was the best that I've ever see him. Did Roger play his best? No..he didnt. Does that mean Andy was the better player? No..just means that Andy's A+++ game wasn't quite good enough to beat Roger's B game that day.

I get annoyed when I hear people say Roddick deserved it more, that Roger didnt deserve to win. Roger just can't win with some people, because if he had completely walked over Andy, winning the match in like, an hour or something, people would be like "Oh Pandy was such a mickey mouse opponent". If it was anyone else, after that 5 setter they'd say "what a warrior..really gutted it out to the end, ect ect". But because its Roger, its somehow "undeserved".

In sports deserving does not equal winning. You have to EARN it. And Roger did.

Catherine, I really don't understand this entire discussion. We do not admire the same person, obviously Vicky, I and the rest of the Roddick fans here would have a different take on the match

you don't need to take it personally.

i've read all of this and i REALLY wanted to go into an entire rant/post but i won't and just say. i completely agree with this! i've never been a federer fan and I NEVER WILL BE! i can acknowledge that he's a good player, but he's not the best ever by any means. but that's not it. i will NEVER like his attitude. i think it's arrogant and always will think that. it's not someone that i want to be called a fan of. end of story.

You know, I dont really get these "he's arrogant" complaints either. I've been a fan since around 2003 and never have I seen something he did that made me think he was so arrogant. Not anything remotely like some other athletes who are on the top of their sports. But whatever.

Anyhoo..time for me to stop talking about tennis and actually go play some.

I'm not disputing the fact that Roger is an amazing tennis player, you don't win all that he has won without being one of the very best in the game, and he's obviously a nice guy based on all the kind and glowing comments about him by people on and off the court. But I do think there is this smugness about him, and I think that may be part of the reason why some people find it hard to warm to him. He's almost too calm at times. Personally I like to see players show a bit of passion, I'm not saying get angry and argue with umpires, but just just show some feeling. I guess that's also part of the reason why I enjoy watching the likes of Nadal and Hewitt play, you feel like you're with them on every single point. I've never felt like that towards Federer. I don't dislike him, but at the same time, I'm not a fan of his either.

Wow y`all are really fighting like cats and dogs about Fed. Personally i don`t have a problem with him.

In other stuff, since we`re getting near the 300 posts mark here, it`s time to come up with the title of the next thread. Here are a couple of suggestions i`ve been toying with for a few days:

Tennis #19: B/C the action is about to heat up with the summer hard court season!

or

Tennis #19: B/C the only thing hotter than the weather is the action on the hard courts!

Honestly, I see both sides. Perhaps because I am a fan of both. I think both deserved to win. I don't really think one can change anyone else's opinion so why not just focus on the fact that we got an AMAZING final.

The draws for the Davis Cup ties was released earlier. In the USA-Croatia tie, James will take on Ivo Karlovic in the first match tomorrow. I was afraid that this would happen.

I really hope that James can hold serve and then turn up his play in the tiebreakers. Mardy will face Marin Cilic in the second match, while the Bryan Brothers will play Ivo and Lovro Zovko in the doubles match on Saturday.

Meanwhile in the other ties, Marat won`t be playing singles for Russia in their tie against Israel. Also David Ferrer will miss Spain`s tie against Germany due to a muscle strain. So veteran Juan Carlos Ferrero will take his place on the team.

Lastly the ratings for the men`s final at Wimbledon were the highest in 10 years. I`m very pleased that a lot of people got to watch a great epic match between Andy and Fed on Sunday.

Anyway here are some pics from the draw ceremony in Croatia earlier today.

It is very strange not to see Andy with the rest of Team USA. However i feel very confident with Mardy and the Bryan brothers and hope that James can somehow do something positive.

I`m not feeling the Croatians` warmup jackets. They should`ve got a simpler look instead of the Purina look.

For me, Fed shows his passion when he plays tennis. His game tells me everything. I don't need to see people get worked up etc in a game or be a clown or whatever. That's a bit silly and can be a bit tiring. I like Fed because his passion is in his gamework imo

I agree. For me, seeing someone shouting a million "come ons" in the match, for every single damn point, even on opponents errors, like double faults, ect...doesnt show passion. At the very least its annoying.
