I'll assume it's pretty, Barbara. My crap computer still aren't loading some pictures. Well, do you feel sort of like the last of the gatekeepers? It's just us and Jelena that are keeping Rafa's thread active. I wonder what happened to Karen?

Oh, and thanks for telling me about Novak getting his ranking back. He just better win. He's been in a habit of losing matches that improve his rank. Had he won a match earlier this year, Roger would have slid to third and Rafa could possibly still have his rightful ranking.

I missed the match. I saw the score, though. How'd he lose so bad? He played so well against Blake and Marat. If he doesn't win over a top ten or twenty player soon,... I don't know what to say.

And ouch, I just saw the draw for Shanghai. Blake or Karlovic? Jesus, he could lose his first match there with the way things are going.

Oh, and B, tbh, I don't know how much of difference it would have made if he had played Kolya.

Koyla isn't a server machine like Cilic. His serve wins him a lot of points because if he doesn't ace or hit unreturnable serves, his opponent sometimes con only return poor balls that will be killed by him with a winner in the second ball.
Rafa said the problem was he was never there mentally and maybe this lack of rhythm caused him to be lost... Koyla would have given him rhythm and while the outcome could be the same, at least Rafa would have practiced more.

I don't know, Barbara. I can't give him this "no rhythm" excuse. He's played big servers and ace machines before(Karlovic, Roddick, etc). He didn't make the necessary adjustments he should have. What stopped him from employing the game he'd have used against one of them against Marin? You said it yourself. Mental. I think it's as simple as him not being there mentally. His fault. And for no rhyme or reason, sometimes you are just going to lose. For once, I'm not going to panic. As long as he gets decent results from these last tournaments, I'm okay with it. I think he's probably looking toward the DC tie to end this season of hell on a high. I hope this reported "spat" between the spanish players don't harm their chances to win it.

I didn't watch the match either, but now I'm glad I didn't. I don't like players who play like Cilic or Karlovic. I agree with Roger on that one, that's just not tennis. Anyway, I didn't expect him to lose and that's the only reason I'm bummed right now. Semi final is def a decent result and he had a couple of really great wins so I'm really happy with his performance in this tournament.

I didn't expect Rafael to lose, but I'm not surprised.

for you and Barbara. I see you guys are upset. If you put it in some perspective, Rafa's results, so far, isn't so different from his other end of season tournaments. He's making semi-final consistently. If he starts losing in the opening rounds, I'll worry. If he doesn't defend his AO, but make semi or final, I'll worry. If he doesn't win the first clay court tournament, I'll finally start panicing.
