NFL Discussion Thread: Are You Ready For Some Football?

Week one has just passed & already there are some major shake ups around the league.

Chad Johnson is now officially Chad Ocho Cinco.

Tom Brady is out for the season.

Vince Young & Marques Colston may be out for several months.

Brett Favre is now a Jet & his predecessor, Aaron Rodgers ended week 1 with a grand entrance into the league.

Oh but one thing remains the same...the Raiders stink!

Anyone see the Colts losing to the Vikings?

The Vince Young saga is really sad. It sounds like he is suffering from depression. I know that he is trying to play things off, but when your mom and coach contact the authorities to find your whereabouts, things aren't right. I hope he is able to find the necessary help. It's unfortunate to see the drop he has suffered since his magical victory against USC.

Chad "Ocho Cinco" Johnson has an identity crisis! Seriously, what's up with the name change? I know this guy is all about publicity and the limelight, but this is ridiculous. He better start to put up or shut up! The Bungles had an underwhelming Week 1 performance.

The Matt Cassel era has officially begun. Belichick is either incredibly arrogant or stupid to think that he doesn't need an experienced QB to back him up. Cassel is no Brady. Not even close. If he doesn't perform well or gets injured, who's their answer? They don't have one.

I'm going to be very surprised if that game happens at all. It's really bad right now in Houston with almost 5 million people without power and it could take weeks to get power back to everyone.

That's what I am reading ... I can't believe that they'd actually play the game in Houston anytime soon ....

Well I'm not surprised.

The whole Vince Young suicide and gun thing is a little scary.

From Ravens-Texans game moved to Week 10
Quote:
HOUSTON -- Damage caused by Hurricane Ike has led to the further postponement of Monday night's NFL game at Reliant Stadium between the visiting Baltimore Ravens and the Houston Texans.

The Ravens-Texans game originally scheduled to be played Sunday, then rescheduled to be played Monday night due to Hurricane Ike, will now be played in Week 10. The originally scheduled Bengals-Texans game in Week 10 has been moved to Week 8 (game time 4:05 p.m. ET), and the Bengals' bye week moves to Week 10.

The storm tore chunks off the stadium's retractable roof and the damage can't be fixed in time to host the game, said Shea Guinn, the president and general manager of Reliant Park.

"There is no way this stadium will host a game on Monday night," Guinn said Saturday. "There are parts of the roof that are completely gone."

The retractable roof on the $352 million venue rolls open in nine sections. Guinn said five of the sections were missing and large pieces of debris had fallen into the stadium.

"It's hard to tell what came from where," Guinn said.

An official announcement on the game was expected later Saturday, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said.

"It certainly appears that the stadium is not going to be able to be used on Monday night," Aiello said.

The game, originally scheduled for Sunday, was moved to Monday earlier in the week as Ike approached the area.

The field is not scheduled to host another game until Oct. 5, but Guinn said he wasn't sure when repairs could be completed. He said the stadium also sustained some water damage at street level.

Reliant Stadium sits next to the Astrodome. Guinn said Saturday that he had not yet inspected the dome for storm damage. The Texans' air-supported practice "bubble" across the street was deflated on Thursday and was not damaged, Guinn said.

Harris County Judge Ed Emmett, the supervisor of the county's hurricane cleanup efforts, planned to visit Reliant Stadium and survey the damage later Saturday.

If Monday's game is postponed, it is unclear when it could be made up. The Texans' off week is Oct. 26, while Baltimore's is Nov. 6.

Three years ago, when the New Orleans Saints were displaced because of Hurricane Katrina, they played four of their scheduled home games at LSU's Tiger Stadium, three in San Antonio and one in East Rutherford, N.J., against the New York Giants.

I think Goodell dropped the ball earlier in the week by not moving the game. Every weather report around the country had Hurricane Ike being severe and those reports were coming out early in the week. And he actually thought there was a chance they could play a game a day or two after the storm hit? The Texans should have been told to leave Houston earlier in the week and train somewhere else. The Saints did this a week earlier with Gustav.

Obviously in the grand scheme of things, a football game doesn't matter that much, but this definitely could and should have been handled better by the NFL.
