NFL Discussion Thread: Let the '05 Season Begin!

The preseason is just under way, but the action off the field is already in full force. Will Owens be flying the coup in Philadelphia? How will Ty Law do as a Jet? Is Joey Harrington or Jeff Garcia gonna be the the starting QB in Detroit? Can Peyton repeat his historical '04 season? Does Favre have another season left in those legs? Will Randy Moss succeed in Oakland? Can Warner & Bledsoe rekindle their glory days? How will the Pats fair with the departures of both offense & defense coordinators gone?

Baseball is boring and too long, IMO.

Thanks for starting the new NFL thread, though! The regular season is almost here.

DAMN!!!

Well, that’s it. The Bears’ season is done. Rex Grossman broke his ankle in tonight’s preseason game against St. Louis and is expected to be out 3-4 months. I was never a big fan to begin with, but the Bears have absolutely no shot with the likes of Chad Hutchinson at QB. That was a scary experiment last year! I’d rather see Kyle Orton experience growing pains than go through that nightmare again. Damn the Bears’ front office! They didn’t get an experienced back-up QB in the off-season, and look at what happens.

That's two years in a row that Grossman has gone down with a major injury. That's not even counting his broken finger at the end of his rookie season. The guy is becoming injury-prone.

Kathie, you wouldn't be so down if you hadn't put your trust in such a chump in the first place Of course, an injury like that is acceptable, compared to the way some of my guys have gone out, ie K2.

I didn’t put trust in Glassman, it was GM Jerry Angelo. Why he would go two years in a row without depth at the QB position, let alone legitimate competition for Rex, is beyond me. I never viewed Glassman to be a sure-thing coming out of college, so I’m surprised that he was handed the reigns so quickly. I didn’t think he would put up great numbers this year, but I was hoping he would do just enough not to lose the Bears games. Now, I can’t say the same thing about Hutchinson or Orton.

Cedric Benson better get to camp soon. If the Bears had any sense, they would heavily focus on the running game this season. Hutch definitely isn't going to get the job done in the air.

After 40 years in the league, could this be the year for the Falcons to get a Superbowl victory? I hope so.

Did you hear according to SI.com's Truth and Rumours Cedric Benson has sold his home near Chicago and is moving back down to Texas. Is this the start of a year long holdout that would allow him to re-enter the draft next year? Who knows.

"After the Bears' final contract ultimatum was delivered to former Texas running back Cedric Benson, agent Eugene Parker responded by shipping two luxury cars from Chicago back to Texas. And the Libertyville home Benson purchased in July was put up for sale."

Ah I can't wait for the regular season, though pre-season is pretty good right now. Watching the Pats Vs Green Bay last night...I'm a Pat's fan..happy about the win, but I love Brett Favre, Ahman Green and Javon Walker. Anyway...yeah. LoL
