I'm going to need someone to explain to me exactly what Eric Hinske offers this team. Pinch hitter for Melky, Gardner, or the pitcher? That's all I got.

I'm also going to need someone to punch Joel Sherman somewhere it hurts.

I'm asking myself the same thing. I thought Pena was doing a fine job for the team. I understand that they want him to keep developing and playing everyday but ugh, we don't need these boopers everywhere. Not that Eric is some huge bat but god.

I hate when they make trades like this.

And I swear Joba better get past five innings tonight. No excuses.

They're apparently going to send Pena to AAA to learn the OF, so he can be a super-super-sub, which, outside of my contempt for Cody Ransom being on the roster, I do understand. He's had a few lucky hits (a la Cody Ransom last year, Alberto Gonzalez the year before, etc..), but he really has little value with the bat. Making him as versatile as humanly possible is his best bet for long-term and slightly delayed short-term value to this team.

Eric Hinske, meanwhile, is a horrible defender everywhere, slow as dirt, and an obvious worse bat than Swisher, Damon, and Teix. He's pretty useless, given how this team is constructed. I just... don't get it. I don't.

ETA: OMFG, Cano is still in the fifth spot. Why is Joe so hard headed?!!!

Maybe that's going to be Hinske's role -- he'll DH for Cano with RISP and the pitcher will hit that turn.

Edit: If they're going to waste a fixed Hughes in the pen, he needs to be the 8th inning guy. BB is BBing too many.

Who else is getting frustrated with Joba? And Cano in the fifth spot? I mean Joba didn't pitch that bad in the beginning but how many no decisions is he going to have this season because the guys have to come back and win it?

I'm not frustrated with him. I'm furious with the Yankees for messing him up.

I'd sarcastically suggest they tinker with another hot young pitching prospect's mechanics, but we don't have any of those left in the minors, really.

UGH, I'm getting so annoyed with Girardi's management of Hughes. Why the hell couldn't he keep him in there for TWO innings? Come on now!

I thought when Girardi was hired that he would have an instinctive feel for the game. Clearly he doesn't.

The worst part is that while he wasn't perfect by any stretch, he did a good job last year! And he showed a good sense to swap Damon and Jeter in the lineup in ST this year, for that matter.
