Moto GP 2003 - Brand new season ready to start

Thought it was high time to get this thread started again as the first qualifying session of the new season is only 9 hours away . (ed again to add the banner - thanks S )

Sidenote: do not do what I did - type Rossi into Google and press the "I'm feeling lucky button" . Poor thing has done nothing to deserve this as the first answer to a search with his surname ( @ the site btw ).

Now I'll probably off to get some sleep so that I ca n actually wake up at 7.00 AM to watch that much awaited Q session

Oh and please, any possible lurkers? Do come and post . Otherwise it'll probably be just me and S for the whole season *g*

ed: thought I'd add the link to the official site too if anyone wants to learn more about the Moto GP

Thanks for starting this up, hun!

wtf? a site promoting weapons?

damn, I'm bloody *****ing jealous! Let me know how the QP session goes, okay? *sigh* I miss our old SportsCity channel so much. Before they cease transmission, we get practically very single live race and even the post-race interviews (no QP sessions however:/) Now I can't even listen to their lovely Italian and Spanish accents anymore *goes to ESPN and StarSports*

And you know what? I did a search at our cable tv website, and they're not gonna show the races live this weekend instead it'll be Motogp World Championship 2003 Highlights on Tuesday and Wednesday

Btw, I made a banner. I wasn't being creative today, so just something simple.

Not even live races? . That's just wrong!

Thank you much for the banner .

It's 9 in the morning here now and the Moto GP Q session just ended - Rossi is first

The 125 cc was on earlier and de Angelis was fastest, then Pedrosa ( ), Cecchinello, Giansanti, Perugini and Sabbatani. So the second was a Spaniard and then 4 Italians - not bad, though the Spain:Italy ratio could better . Full 125 cc first qualifying session results (at motogp.com).

The results from the Moto GD Q session aren't up yet, I'll come back and edit the link in later .

<-- off to watch the 250 cc session

The sad news of the fisrt day:

Quote:
Melandri breaks leg in first session of new season

Marco Melandri became the first casualty of the 2003 MotoGP World Championship when he ditched his Yamaha M1 in the first free practice session at Suzuka this morning and broke his right tibia and femur. The 250cc World Champion was airlifted from the circuit clinic to the local Mie General Medical Centre by helicopter for a full examination and operation, but early indications are that he has an open break on the tibia near his ankle, where the bone joins with the fibula, whilst the femur bone (in the upper part of the leg) seems to be a clean fracture. The Fortuna Yamaha rider had completed just 8 laps of the Suzuka circuit when he crashed at the fast right hander after the hairpin. The session was red flagged as his stricken M1 was cleared from the circuit and the rider was stretchered to an ambulance. Doctors at the scene predicted that he will probably require between 45 and 90 days to make a full recovery.

And the other is nowhere near as bad: just that Kallio had a really rotten day and he's 34th of the 36 125 cc riders. There was something decidedly odd about his bike today so he only managed a few laps and then nothing.. Better luck tomorrow I hope.

yeah, so very wrong

and you're welcome

And thanks so much for the results/links Hurray for Rossi! Biaggi came right behind him in just a second lapse! Good to hear Pedrosa came in second for the 125

Macio broke a leg? It sounded really bad. Does it look bad? Poor guy...

Sorry to hear about Kallio, I hope he has a better day tomorrow too

Yeah . I don't know how bad it looked though (we didn't get to see the morning practice) and if they showed a clip of it during the q session broadcasts, I missed it.

OT complaining: *sigh* we had about a week of almost springlike weather and now when I lok out of the window, pretty much all I see is covered in snow

That's great

to Starhub

Hard to say about the season - let's just say that I maintain that it's spring even though it's been snowing almost all day

Um, really strange weather there

Anyways, here's the provisional starting grid for tomorrow's race after todays 2nd QP session. Jeremy McWilliams was by far the fastest rider, but he failed to lap 107% of Rossi's provisional pole time.

Motogp starting grid.

Thanks for the links

Honestly said, even though I woke up at 7 AM, I'm only now starting to fully awake and it's almost 11

I fear to think how I'll wake up in time for the races . I guess I should for once try to to bed early

No problem

Maybe you should - that is straight away after Real vs Vallecano match At least that's what I'm planning to do, so that I can wake up early, go to P's house in the morning and watch the race with him But then again, half of me is thinking of staying up further to follow Juve/Torino on the net (since I don't get to watch it tongith)

<--going to eat dinner now

Yeah, and it even nicely starts at 2.00 here and not the usual 22.30 or something like that *G*.

Sounds surspiciously much like a plan *G*

Well, a but later can't hurt, can it . Not whenit's Juve

Well, the plan failed miserably it seems I couldn't reach P's place in time for 250cc

Come on Vale!!! Biaggi is leading!

ed: Ducati is really powerful it seems Now Capirossi leads.

Hmm, I wonder why some Superbike riders, such as Haga and Bayliss, switch to Motogp this season Can't get enough of the excitement, I guess

Forza Rossi!! Now he leads!

ps: Barros is riding with an injured left knee from this morning (damaged ligament according to the commentators), and he's on that race without any painkillers
