That's gotta be someones dad

I agree about Manny being a better hitter than Papi. Papi is the classic power hitter. .250-.280 average with 45-50 homers and 120-130 RBI with one of the best overall hitters in the game backing him up. Manny has done it with limited protection behind him. He hasn't really ever had protection either. He was backing up Albert Belle and Thome in Cleveland and and has been Boston's cleanup man for awhile.

It's a shame his "Manny being Manny" stuff sometimes overshadows how ridiculous a hitter he really is.

I disagree with your statement that the Yankees are superior in talent to the Red Sox. Neither bullpen looked good in this series. Your starters outperformed our's by leaps & bounds, but we're w/o Wake & more importantly Varitek. The players have the talent they simply didn't show it this series & that's a shame.

I think the biggest thing isn't that the talent isn't there, but that some of your younger pitchers should still be developing. Lester shouldn't have the responsibility of being the third starter right now, but I think he'll be good when he's ready. I know he's highly regarded, at least. And I know the Yankees were saying how lucky they were that Papelbon didn't come in to start the 8th inning on Sunday because he was really just unhittable. But as far as bullpens go, we did outscore you 30-5 after the 5th inning. One of those runs came off of TJ Beam, who was our mop up man to save the other arms. One of them was Pena's home run off of Everyday Scottie, who pitched in every game this series except for Saturday (when Joe had him warming anyway) and has only allowed 2 runs since the All-Star Break. So I think virtually everyone who follows the Yankees has forgiven him that one little blip, he was probably our overall MVP this weekend.

I think the bullpen ERA was something like 3.8 to 11.7, although I don't remember exactly. I think the talent is there in your bullpen, but I think because of the injuries to Wakefield, etc. your young pitchers have been asked to do things that they might not be ready for yet. When we had the injuries to Sheff and Matsui, we were lucky that we had someone like Melky who could fill in and has done so extremely well. And even GOB did his job well filling in in RF.

Manny is such a great hitter, and he was basically always on base this series. I think the number of times we intentionally walked him should say something about just how good he is.

Bad news for Phillies fans

All I'm saying is I don't think the Yanks are a lock to win the WS just b/c they swept us. I think the Tigers are last season's White Sox & could very well win it all.

Aaron Rowand will always be my favorite player and it stinks to see this happen to such a hard-nosed, great outfielder. I hope he gets a speedy recovery.

I think he has done something damaging to every part of his body. A couple years ago, he rode his bike off in a cliff -type thing when he was with us in Chicago and he made it through..

Hopefully for Aaron's sake he doesn't ride bikes any more. Eeek!

This is probably the only actually funny thing Page2 has posted in ages:

Quote:
But we can remedy this starting today. Just minutes after this article appears online, the final game of the Red Sox-Yankees series will begin on ESPN2. In hopes of making the broadcast more interesting, I've taken the liberty of guessing how Yankees and Red Sox players might answer the traditional Little League questions. Now, I can't promise this is exactly what the players would say -- as I didn't actually poll them -- but I'd be surprised if anything below is incorrect.

I just hope my humble suggestion is noted and that the following makes it on air.

Favorite Singer/Musical Artist:
Johnny Damon: "Was Bronson Arroyo. Now it's Bernie Williams."
Curt Schilling: "John Ashcroft."
Gary Sheffield: "Pretty much anyone but R. Kelly."
Manny Ramirez: "The Wiggles."

Hobby:
Bobby Abreu: "Googling all of my girlfriends."
Josh Beckett: "Signing undeserved contract extensions."
Johnny Damon: "Reliving puberty by experimenting with facial hair."

When I grow up, I want to:
Sal Fasano: "Own and operate a leather bar."
Carl Pavano: "Have a surgical procedure named after me like Tommy John."
Keith Foulke: "Be Jonathan Papelbon."

Lucky charm:
Jason Giambi: "I had one, but my attorney says I shouldn't talk about it."
Alex Rodriguez: "I don't have one, but 'lucky charms' happens to be my safe word."
Manny Ramirez: "I eat Lucky Charms for breakfast. Marshmallows are yummy."

Favorite TV show:
Curt Schilling: "Pretty much anything on Fox News."
David Ortiz: "'SportsCenter.' They show every home run I hit."
Alex Rodriguez: "'The Modern Girl's Guide To Life' on the Style Network."

Favorite food:
Sidney Ponson: "Everything."
David Wells: "Anything."
Jason Giambi: "Anything that covers the medicine-y taste of oral steroi ... er, pizza. I'll go with pizza."
Brian Cashman: "I can't remember because I haven't been allowed to eat anything but gruel ever since we lost the 2001 World Series."
Cory Lidle: "Ice cream."
Derek Jeter: "Chilled grapefruit. Because along with clean oak moss and spice, it combines to make the scent of my new cologne: Driven by Derek Jeter."
Manny Ramirez: "Paste. And my boogers."

Person I would like to meet:
Theo Epstein: "The Josh Beckett who pitched for the Marlins."
Coco Crisp: "Johnny Damon. Everyone who boos me says I need to be more like him."
Curt Schilling: "I wish it was possible to meet myself because I bet it's totally awesome to meet me."

Does Big Papi have enough gas left in the tank to hit like 55 to 60 HRs this season? I think he's got 46 right now.

You know, I used to defend Ozzie, but his managing has been atrocious lately. Yeah, let's sit half the team when playing against our rivals and then be suprised when we lose. You cannot sit Scott Podsednik, Brian Anderson, and AJ Pierzinski, when you have Jim Thome already hurt. It's ridiculous.

Since July 3rd, Ozzie has played the normal lineup (Pods, Gooch, Thome, Kong, JD, AJP, Crede, Uribe, Anderson) 6 TIMES. A team in a playoff race should not play 6 times in 8 weeks. No wonder we're losing. And two of those games came against KC..

It's not like the Sox pitching or bullpen has been as consistent or dominant as 2005. IIRC, the starters ERA's are a run or two higher than last year.

Even without Liriano, I think the Twins win the WC... or possibly the Central if Tigers continue to fall.

Oh trust me, I know the pitching isn't there. Aside from Jon Garland, the starting pitching has been inconsistent..although I will admit, it has been picking up. It's odd because the bullpen has been consistent up until the last week when it's had its flaws shoved down our throats.

Buerhle had a good day today but I will give it a few more starts before I think he's okay.

Rowand actually said when he's done with baseball, he's going to ride again. He's a daredevil, my favorite baseball player. He's so hard-core.
