Penko did make a lot of errors but Maria played very well and took her chances

What a great win by Maria yesterday. I thought that match was going to be a tough 3 set match. I'm glad Maria won in straight sets.

Yeah it was a tough loss for Maria last night.
She got outplayed by Carla Suarez Navarro and wasn't able to prevent herself from being drawn into playing too many long rallies. Obviously a disappointing end to what looked like a pretty good opportunity for Maria.__________________

Maria will make her debut on the 2019 season at the Shenzhen Open. In fact she got things started with a 6-2, 7-6(3) victory over Timea Bacsinszky earlier today. Good win for Maria. I'm pleased that she had a solid performance to start the new season.
Next up for her in the Round of 16 will be hometown favorite Xinyu Wang. Hopefully Maria can keep it going.__________________
