Horse Racing Thread #1: We`re still waiting on a Triple Crown winner!
Since the Triple Crown is a bigger story than typically found in the News thread... ::showcases thread::
BB drew the rail in Saturday's race. I have a feeling Casino Drive's going to pull the upset (unfortunately). |

I'm really disappointed that Big Brown didn't win the Triple Crown. It's such an elusive prize.

I think BB is pretty much done racing now, for better or worse.
The way this whole thing played out, with how differing the jockey and trainers opinions are on what happen, is bizarre. I'm a cynic about everything, perhaps to a fault, but the first thing I thought yesterday was that it all reeked of a fix; with those odds no one was going to make any money if BB won or even placed. |

Kauto "what a" Star!
Long Run's jumping had a few errors admittedly but even so i think it would have taken quite something to beat Kauto today. Class. __________________

No problem. Here's a picture from yesterday's Betfair Chase:

The 139th edition of the Kentucky Derby was run Saturday, May 4th, at Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY. I was very happy for the connections of the winner, Orb,
as they were long overdue to win this classic race. He was clearly the best horse on the day. The full results are: Finish Horse ..........Jockey.........Trainer 1 Orb Joel Rosario Claude R. McGaughey III 2 Golden Soul Robby Albarado Dallas Stewart 3 Revolutionary Calvin H. Borel Todd A. Pletcher 4 Normandy Invasion Javier Castellano Chad C. Brown 5 Mylute Rosie Napravnik Thomas M. Amoss 6 Oxbow Gary L. Stevens D. Wayne Lukas 7 Lines of Battle Ryan L. Moore Aidan P. O'Brien 8 Will Take Charge Jon Kenton Court D. Wayne Lukas 9 Charming Kitten Edgar S. Prado Todd A. Pletcher 10 Giant Finish Jose L. Espinoza Anthony W. Dutrow 11 Overanalyze Rafael Bejarano Todd A. Pletcher 12 Palace Malice Mike E. Smith Todd A. Pletcher 13 Java's War Julien R. Leparoux Kenneth G. McPeek 14 Verrazano John R. Velazquez Todd A. Pletcher 15 Itsmyluckyday Elvis Trujillo Edward Plesa, Jr. 16 Frac Daddy Victor Lebron Kenneth G. McPeek 17 Goldencents Kevin Krigger Doug F. O'Neill 18 Vyjack Garrett K. Gomez Rudy R. Rodriguez 19 Falling Sky Luis Saez John P. Terranova, II source Orb was so impressive in his win today that I think we might have a very interesting Triple Crown series this year. Next up is the Preakness at Pimlico race track in Baltimore, Maryland on May 18, followed by the Belmont Stakes in New York on June 8th. An important race on the Kentucky Derby undercard, The Woodford Reserve, was won by the 2012 Horse of the Year and my personal favorite runner, Wise Dan. I love horse racing and hope some others here might share that interest. __________________

I caught the Kentucky Derby yesterday and i was impressed with Orb`s win. Joel Rosario did a good job of being patient with him at the start and then turning up the speed on the final turn.
As for Orb`s chance at the Preakness, i think that it`s going to be a tough act to follow, especially if the weather is nicer. __________________

But I think he has a chance. The KD was his first time going the distance, first race in the slop. He has a very sweet stride that conserves energy, almost floats on a fast track. To me, the biggest question is if he can come back in just 2 weeks. Pimlico will be easier if not sloppy because of the shorter distance, but thoroughbreds just aren't bred or trained anymore to run 3 races in 5 weeks.
I'm glad you got to see the race. Haven't checked the ratings yet but the KD usually does pretty well. It would be great to have a real TC contender this year, especially after last year was such a disappointment... Thanks for the comment! eta: And I'll bet Joel Rosario is counting his blessings after moving his tack from So.Cal. late last year! He's killing it in the East! __________________

Hi Nikki! Just thought I'd see if there's any interest in the ponies around here!
If the title is any indication, the answer is probably "no." Big Brown's TC was 5 years ago! __________________
