Anyway, I don't like the way Kimi represents Finland (fame has gone to his head, I think. Feel free to disagree ) so I'm happier without opening television.
Of course I follow the scores but I think it's sad where formulas are now. I used to enjoy them

When I then watch F1 my favourite driver is Fernando Alonso (he has the same birthday as I have , 29th of July). I also like Heinz-Harald Frentzen, is he btw even driving anymore?

Well, anyways, this was totally unnecessary post

EDITED to say: It seems like you can't put smilies on your subject
hey Spicy One welcome to the thread

ITA i loved f1 so much when Mika was driving and the sport deffinatly hasn't been as exciting since he retired I thought that last season was reasonable and I really looked forward to the start of this season but I must say that it's been like 2002 again. I don't really know why I stayed watching in 2002... I think it was because I liked Kimi and Jenson Button so I was watching to see what happened to them. But then last season was a pretty good season and I for some reason believed that this season would be better I'm wondering why I'm still watching this season because at the moment it's just a case of when Michael will win the championship and not will Michael win the championship. But then I think of not watching Fernando drive again and I can't do it. I have to watch him Well so far over 2003 and 2004 I've found someone to support like I supported Mika so I guess that it isn't all bad and ofcourse I still have my support for Jenson and Kimi... but i must be honest and say that isn't as strong as my support for Fernando.

I can't really comment on whether fame has changed Kimi because he's not really in the news much over here. But when he is he still seems like the same person.
We have our new national F1 hero Jenson Button and I really hope the fame doesn't go to his head like it did in 2000 ofcourse the press are only interested in him not that he's doing well so annoying!!!

oh and HHF isn't in F1 this season.

WILLIAMS COOL ON JV RUMOURS
Last Updated: Tuesday, 11 May , 2004, 14:58

Jacques Villeneuve will not test for Williams this week, the team have confirmed.

It was reported in the British press that Villeneuve had visited Paul Ricard on Monday and that he would test the FW26 later in the week.

But Williams have denied that the 1997 World Championship has had a seat-fitting and claim he will not be testing at the French circuit this week.

A spokesman for the team though said an announcement on the outfit's 2005 driver line-up could come as soon as August.

He told Reuters: "To deny circulating rumours, he [Villeneuve] is not being seat fitted at the track for us this week or indeed testing for us in France.

"In respect of our driver selections for 2005 and beyond, the team's immediate priority is to improve the performance of the FW26 as this will be the biggest single incentive to securing a competitive driver line-up.

"We are actively considering a wide range of potential candidates as would be reasonably expected and to this end we have had discussions with many drivers whose names have been the subject of recent press speculation.

"However...a discussion does not mean necessarily that a driver is under active consideration for any number of reasons.

"It is anticipated that the team may be in a position to confirm driver appointments by August.”

While there is definitely one vacant seat with the British outfit in 2005 with Juan Pablo Montoya’s defection to McLaren, claims that Ralf Schumacher will also leave have gained ground in recent weeks.

Almost every driver has been linked with the seats, but Jaguar’s Mark Webber is thought to be top on the Grove list should Flavio Briatore, who owns the Aussie’s contract, let him go.

TEAMS GEAR UP FOR MONACO
Last Updated: Tuesday, 11 May , 2004, 14:41

Teams hit the track this week as they prepare for the Monaco GP in two weeks’ time.

The venue is the Paul Ricard track in France with Williams, McLaren, Toyota, Renault, Ferrari and BAR all expected to hit the circuit.

Testing kicks off on Tuesday and will run through until Friday. Williams are set to hold a four-day test with test drivers Marc Gene and Antonio Pizzonia in action on Tuesday and Wednesday with Juan Pablo Montoya joining the squad on Thursday and Friday.

Toyota will also hit the track for the full week with test driver Ricardo Zonta and Olivier Panis carrying out development work for the first two days while Cristiano da Matta will take over duties on Thursday and Friday.

McLaren will run test drivers Alex Wurz and Pedro de la Rosa on Tuesday and Wednesday while race drivers David Coulthard and Kimi Raikkonen will run on Thursday and Friday.

Renault are set to carry out a three-day test from Wednesday through to Friday with Jarno Trulli and Franck Montagny at the wheel of the R24.

Ferrari are also expected to run a three-day test from Tuesday to Thursday and they are also set to field cars at both Mugello and Fiorano.

Sauber will not join in the French action and instead have opted to test for three days at Silverstone from Tuesday. Jordan may run on Wednesday and Thursday but it has yet to be confirmed.

WEBBER URGED TO LEAVE JAGUAR
Last Updated: Tuesday, 11 May , 2004, 13:58

Mark Webber should be “out of there at 100mph” if he gets the chance to leave Jaguar.

That’s the view of Webber’s compatriot and former world champion Alan Jones, who believes the Ford-owned team are simply too inconsistent.

He told AAP: "It's typical Ford and typical Jaguar.

It's almost like when the team was Stewart - they would make good progress but it was two steps forward and three steps backwards.

"They're just too inconsistent."

Webber has been strongly linked with a move to Williams but his future will ultimately be decided by Renault boss Flavio Briatore, who has the Aussie under long-term contract.

Jones believes a move to either team would be a big step forward for the 27-year-old.

He said: "I'd like to see him in a Williams or a Renault.

"Unless Jaguar has something up its sleeve, he should be out of there at 100 mph if he is given the chance."

Jones added that Webber was a "top six driver and improving" but would not get the recognition he deserves until he is in a better car.

He added: "It's like Jenson Button at BAR.

"All of a sudden the BAR has come good and everyone's saying what a great driver Jenson Button is."

Webber is under contract to Jaguar until the end of next season but there is speculation that he has a performance-related break clause in the deal.

The Australian qualified a brilliant second in Malaysia but so far only has one point to his name this season, scored in Bahrain.

SCHU WINS PRESTIGOUS SPORT AWARD
Last Updated: Tuesday, 11 May , 2004, 12:40

Michael Schumacher has won the prestigious Laureus World’s Sportsman of the Year award.

It is the second time the Ferrari driver has picked up the gong after winning it in 2002.

Schumacher, who took his record-breaking sixth World Championship last year, fought off last year’s winner, five-times Tour de France victor Lance Armstrong, Wimbledon tennis Champion Roger Federer, American swimmer Michael Phelps, MotoGP Champion Valentino Rossi and England fly-half Jonny Wilkinson.

Although the German’s Ferrari team were nominated for the World Team of the Year category, they lost out to the England rugby squad.

Renault’s Fernando Alonso was up for Newcomer of the Year but was pipped by Hawaiian golf sensational Michelle Wie.

Candidates for the awards are selected by over 400 sports journalists from across the globe. Once the nominees are decided, a group of 41 sports personalities, including former cyclist Miguel Indurain, tennis player John McEnroe and athlete Ed Moses, selected the winners

GORDON DROPS IN AT WILLIAMS
Last Updated: Tuesday, 11 May , 2004, 15:59

NASCAR star Jeff Gordon attended the Spanish GP as speculation grows over Williams’ 2005 driver line-up.

Gordon tested a Williams F1 car last year in a publicity stunt that also saw Juan Pablo Montoya drive a NASCAR racer.

Although he has said that he is too old for F1, this has not stopped speculation that he would jump at the chance if offered a top drive.

Gordon said: "I have had more opportunities to go to F1 in the last three years than I had when it was more realistic.

“Anybody who is a competitive driver feels we could do the job. That confidence is what makes us winners.

“If I got an offer from Ferrari or Williams I would have to think really hard. It would take a great deal of dedication.

“It would involve moving from the US, and a life change with totally different work-out and training and testing. It would involve learning the tracks, the competitors, the cars and so on.

“Maybe a 21 year old guy would be willing to do it but I am not so sure for a guy more towards the end of his career.

“Driving the Williams-BMW at Indianapolis was the thrill of a lifetime and I must admit that I was a bit frustrated after that because the cars are incredible. They do all the things I want my car to do in NASCAR!"

Gordon’s hopes of an offer from Ferrari are practically non-existent but, with two drives likely to be available at Williams next year, there is a slim possibility that the team might try to pull off a real coup and sign him up.

It would be a brilliant marketing move for the team and for the sport in general and could open the way to new sponsors across the United States.

However, such a deal would be fraught with risk for both driver and team, making it a remote possibility at the very best.

Williams are far more likely to opt for someone with an established F1 pedigree such as Mark Webber.

If they decide to take a risk on an untested driver, they are more likely to opt for IRL champion Scott Dixon, who tested for them twice earlier this year.

Davidson stops test with back problem
Anthony Davidson caused a halt to the opening day of testing today at Paul Ricard when he pulled over in his BAR Honda suffering from severe back pain. The British test driver had to be extracted from the cockpit of his BAR006 by doctors.

Davidson apparently suffered a sudden sharp pain in his back while testing for BAR today. He managed to pull over safely in his car before being taken to the circuit medical centre. Following a thorough examination by the circuit doctors it emerged Davidson's problem was not serious - but its nature and cause has yet to be revealed.

The incident this afternoon caused BAR to draw a halt to their testing programme as Davidson was the only driver they had at the circuit today. The team resumes tomorrow with Button at the wheel.

Hakkinen and Mille Miglia
Mika Hakkinen returned to the wheel of a racer on Saturday. The two-times Formula One champion drove in the historic 'Mille Miglia,' a 1000-mile road race in northern Italy that was originally a high-speed motor rally.

Today, Mille Miglia is a show-race for historic cars. But that doesn't mean tragedy cannot strike - analysts believe 77-year-old Harlan Schwartz, who crashed his 1932 Alfa, is the race's first-ever fatality.

It'll take 'half a year' - McLaren
McLaren is struggling with 'several issues,' according to the team CEO. Ron Dennis said that is 'rare' for a top-line F1 outfit but insisted that getting lapped by a couple of Renaults is not only 'painful' but 'motivating.' "I anticipate a performance step in the next six races," he added.

A 'B-spec' version of the flawed MP4-19 is expected at Hockenheim in July. "We're not here even to come second," the McLaren chairman continued.

That's how he defends the decision to dodge a short-term car fix. But Mercedes' Norbert Haug made a mockery of Dennis' 'six race' plan by stating that even if McLaren can react 'quickly,' it's still going to take 'half a year. "Nobody has fallen asleep," said the German. "Our technical package is simply not good enough."

Verstappen to race in Canada?
The deal is done - Jos Verstappen is set to replace Nick Heidfeld at Jordan. According to media reports, when the Dutchman does a few laps at Silverstone next month the main task is to discover if he's comfortable in the cockpit.

The EJ14 was designed for the smaller frames of Nick and Giorgio Pantano. Team owner Eddie Jordan, meanwhile, urged the media corps to stay cautious on claims that Verstappen will be ready to go for F1's American tour in June. ''It's a bit too early to say anything like that,'' he told Autosport. ''The idea is to get him back into the swing of things, that's all.''

Some team fans, however, can't figure out why German ace Heidfeld's seat is in doubt particularly when rookie pay-driver Pantano is trailing his pace ...Heidfeld, remember, does not bring a dime to Silverstone.

Button's eye 'is ok'
Jenson Button's eye is A-OK. On Monday, the Briton visited an eye hospital in London after a couple of shards of broken carbon-fibre lodged in his left eye during a pitstop in Barcelona. ''F1 doctors removed them after the race,'' reported the Daily Telegraph. ''... but a precautionary check was deemed necessary.''

The newspaper said specialists at Moorfields Clinic gave the BAR ace a 'clean bill of health' and the green-light to tackle Monte-Carlo in a couple of weeks.

MCLAREN'S ROYAL OPENING
Last Updated: Wednesday, 12 May , 2004, 17:36

The McLaren Technology Centre was officially opened by HRH Queen Elizabeth II on Wednesday.

Also attending the event was the Duke of Edinburgh and a long list of former McLaren drivers including four McLaren World Champions – Emerson Fittipaldi, Niki Lauda, Alain Prost and Mika Hakkinen.

McLaren’s new headquarters now houses around 1000 employees and most of the McLaren empire including the F1 team and the production of the new Mercedes McLaren road car.

McLaren team boss Ron Dennis said: “The McLaren Group is honoured and privileged that Her Majesty The Queen has officially opened our new headquarters.

“The facility is a major functional tool to ensure that we remain at the forefront of British engineering and technology, whilst helping to strengthen and develop the McLaren brand.

“It will also act as an incentive to attract and retain the best engineering talent in the world and provide an impetus for the designers of the future.

“The opening of the McLaren Technology Centre will be a milestone in the history of the McLaren marque, and we are proud it has been recognised in this way.”

The Queen was given a tour of the facility where she was introduced to drivers David Coulthard and Kimi Raikkonen and viewed the production of the SLR road car.

The Centre includes design studios, laboratories, research and testing capabilities, electronics development, machine shops and prototyping and production resources. There is also a separate Visitor and Learning centre which will open at a later date.

The new facility has faced severe criticism in recent months with many suggesting that its development has taken the team’s eye off the ball and is one of the reasons behind the outfit’s struggling performance this year.

The facility, which has taken five years to build, has reputedly cost McLaren $100 million more than its originally budgeted $200m.

SAUBER TARGET MCLAREN
Last Updated: Wednesday, 12 May , 2004, 14:47

It may have sounded strange at the start of the season, but Sauber say they are now after McLaren's blood.

Following Giancarlo Fisichella’s solid drive to seventh at the Spanish GP last weekend, accompanied by Felipe Massa’s one point in Malaysia, Sauber now find themselves sixth in the constructors’ championship just two points behind McLaren.

While technical director Willy Rampf says the team are not dismissing the threat from Jaguar or Toyota in seventh and eighth, he admits that McLaren are now the team’s current target.

He said: “We continue to see Jaguar and Toyota as our direct rivals for this season - this has not changed in any way.

“In sport, however, you always have to focus on who's ahead of you, and that's why we're currently focusing on McLaren as well.

“Nevertheless, I expect that McLaren-Mercedes' pluses in budget, manpower and technical resources will be making a difference during the course of the season.”

Sauber have carried out very little testing compared to the other teams so far this season, their seventh place last Sunday was therefore all the more rewarding.

Rampf says the progress on the C23 lies with aerodynamic developments, but he admits it has also been a result of other elements as well.

He said: “There are several factors involved in this [improvement]. For one, the interaction between our two new drivers and the race engineers is getting more and more efficient and Bridgestone have made major strides as well.

“The biggest advance, by a long shot, though, we've achieved in the field of aerodynamics.

“Before the race at Imola, we were able to clearly improve downforce and aerodynamic efficiency, and for Barcelona we achieved another small improvement.”

Sauber have recently opened their new wind tunnel, which Rampf says was key to their new developments.

He said: “With each week we're working in the new tunnel, we're gaining new insights.

“This wind tunnel is a highly complex tool, and it takes time until you can use it perfectly.

“Above all, the importance of being able to measure a full-size car has become clearly evident.

“Nevertheless, CFD development, as well, which we're performing hand in hand with our wind tunnel work, plays a role that shouldn't be underestimated.”

But Rampf has ruled out a sudden leap up the order and says any significant developments will not be seen until next year.

He said: “We still have quite a way to go. And, what's more, one shouldn't make the mistake of thinking that advances in the wind tunnel could happen overnight.

“All of this takes time, but I'm absolutely convinced that we're able to improve in the mid-term.”

“This means that we'll be able to achieve some tangible progress this year, but that the effects of the wind tunnel will only truly show with the C24.”

Sauber are in action at the Silverstone track this week as they prepare for the Monaco GP in just under two weeks’ time.

RICARD BOOST FOR MCLAREN
Last Updated: Wednesday, 12 May , 2004, 09:45

Pedro de la Rosa finished fastest on the first day of testing at Paul Ricard.

The Spaniard boosted McLaren by completing the most mileage – some 113 laps – as well as setting the best time.

Antonio Pizzonia was second fastest for Williams, just under a tenth of a second behind.

The only race driver on duty was Toyota’s Olivier Panis, who finished fifth fastest behind tester Ricardo Zonta.

Anthony Davidson of BAR completed only 12 laps before stopping out on the circuit suffering from back pains. However, a spokesman for the team said there was no serious problem and he is expected to be fit in time for the Monaco GP.

The slowest driver was Jordan’s Timo Glock. Nick Heidfeld is expected to take over testing duties on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Ferrari kicked off their week's testing at Fiorano and Mugello with Michael Schumacher in the cockpit at the former and test driver Luca Badoer in action at the latter.

Schumacher carried out Bridgestone development work while Badoer worked on tyres and the testing of new components. Both will continue on Wednesday.

Over at Silverstone, Sauber kicked off a three-day test with Felipe Massa completing 99 laps on a combination of the full and short circuits.

The Brazilian’s best time on the full circuit was 1m19.060s as he worked on set-up and tyres.

Tuesday testing times from Paul Ricard

1 De la Rosa McLaren 1m32.460s
2 Pizzonia Williams 1m32.556s
3 Zonta Toyota 1m32.875s
4 Gene Williams 1m32.956s
5 Panis Toyota 1m33.165s
6 Wurz McLaren 1m33.746s
7 Davidson BAR 1m34.189s
8 Glock Jordan 1m34.335s

POLLOCK AND JV HAVE A LAUGH
Last Updated: Wednesday, 12 May , 2004, 17:32

Jacques Villneuve and manager Craig Pollock have had a chuckle about the latest rumours.

On Tuesday it was reported in the British press that Villeneuve had flown to the Paul Ricard test circuit in France to meet Williams, have a seat-fitting and test the FW26 later in the week.

Williams were quick to cool the rumours about a possible drive for the French-Canadian next year and said Villeneuve had not been invited to the French circuit.

Now Pollock has revealed that he and the former world champion laughed at the suggestion and claimed Villeneuve was training in Monaco.

He told Villeneuve’s personal website: "F1 is really great!"

"I was extremely surprised to receive calls from a few top British journalists informing me that Jacques was seen at the Paul Ricard circuit.

“They asked me for confirmation and I told them that if Jacques was there, he had not informed me so, knowing Jacques very well, I would say that they had been misinformed by their informants.

“One journalist even accused me of covering up as his informant was a close friend and knew Jacques very well!"

"Jacques was, in actual fact, training in Monaco with his personal trainer and was even more surprised than me to hear that he was apparently in Paul Ricard.

“We did have a good laugh together and had a good discussion about the good old F1 rumour mill!"

The team have at least one seat available next year with the defection of Juan Pablo Montoya to McLaren, while it is widely expected that Ralf Schumacher is on his way to Toyota leaving two berths free.

MOSLEY QUITS CAR INDUSTRY ROLE
Last Updated: Wednesday, 12 May , 2004, 17:35

FIA president Max Mosley has resigned as chairman of Euro NCAP, Europe's leading independent crash-test programme.

Mosley has been in charge of the organisation since 1996 and has built it up to be one of the most influential road safety bodies in the EU.

Mosley said: "As a result of the progress which the car industry has made in protecting drivers and passengers, we are now seeing almost exclusively four and even five star cars.

"The next big area of progress is the avoidance or mitigation of an accident before it happens.

"Getting this active safety right is a major challenge and will require more time from the chairman than I am now able to give.

“I am therefore stepping down after eight years, but I am confident that the FIA and the FIA Foundation will continue fully to support Euro NCAP both financially and technically."

FIRST-LAP HEADACHE FOR BRIDGESTONE
Last Updated: Thursday, 13 May , 2004, 17:16

Bridgestone are coming under pressure from Ferrari to find a way of making their tyres work better on the opening lap of a race.

The Japanese manufacturer has made huge strides forward this season but their one remaining weakness is that Michelin tyres seem to work better before they are up to full operating temperature.

They have got away with it so far this year but Ross Brawn is worried that Ferrari’s race may be compromised at a place like Monaco where overtaking is next to impossible.

He told Autosport magazine: “It is a concern because we perhaps have a performance advantage on occasions, but it is no longer enough to overcome the first-lap performance of the Michelins.

“And when we don’t get in a strong position we can’t use the car.

“Our priority is to try to find first-lap performance. We’ve got a race coming at Monaco where it will be absolutely crucial.

“We’re doing a lot of things in testing to try and get a very strong tyre on the first lap, even if it means a little less consistency.”

Bridgestone technical boss Hisao Suganuma indicated that Monaco may around too soon to fully address the issue.

He said: “We think we can solve the problem, but we probably need some time.

“If we improve that area we might lose the consistency, so we will look for the best compromise.”

DC UNHAPPY AT FRIDAY RULING
Last Updated: Thursday, 13 May , 2004, 12:49

David Coulthard has criticised the ruling that allows some teams to run a third car in Friday practice.

Under new regulations introduced this year, the bottom six teams from last year’s championship are able to field their spare car on the Friday of every grand prix weekend.

Among those six are BAR – who are now arguably the second best team in the sport.

Coulthard, whose McLaren team have moved in the opposite direction, believes this is unfair.

He told Motorsport News: “That rule shouldn't be fixed for the entire year. BAR has established itself as the second or third best team but it can still run a third car all year.

"We can't do much running on Fridays any more - but we're sitting watching guys who are really competitive doing three or four times as many laps as us."

If the six teams allowed to run their test drivers on Friday were reassessed today, McLaren would make the cut.

The Mercedes-powered team have just five points to their name so far this season. In contrast, BAR scored that many at Barcelona alone, despite being relatively disappointed with their result.

DRIVING HIMSELF OUT OF WORK?
Last Updated: Thursday, 13 May , 2004, 17:37

Anthony Davidson has admitted he is likely to be a victim of his own success next season.

Davidson has done an outstanding job in testing and practice for BAR this season, with the team emerging as genuine frontrunners in the first five race of the year.

But with only the bottom six teams being allowed to run their test driver on Friday, Davidson knows it is unlikely he will be in a similar position next year.

He told Reuters: "It's a bit of a Catch 22, isn't it?

"You want the car to be quick but at the same time you want to be doing this again next year.

"Better still you want to be actually having a race drive next year but I'm trying not to let that enter my mind at the moment.

"I'm fairly optimistic, confident about having a full drive next year and at the end of the day I'd prefer to be driving a quick car in testing and not doing the Fridays than doing Fridays in a slow car."

Davidson is fully aware that his Friday exploits have caught the eye so far this season.

He said: "It makes me laugh how a couple of years ago if I did a good job in a test nobody would have given a monkey's about it. No-one would care.

"Now we've actually got a good car, now that the focus is on BAR, they see you and your name at the top and it doesn't matter how you do it."

But the Brit, who once claimed he would never pay for an F1 drive, does not know what the future holds for him.

He laughed: "I was misquoted that time as saying 'I'm not going to be a pay driver'. I only said that because I don't actually have any goddamned money."

BUTTON ON TOP AT RICARD
Last Updated: Thursday, 13 May , 2004, 17:13

Jenson Button was back on top of his game as he headed the times on the second day of testing at Paul Ricard.

The Briton, who replaced the injured Anthony Davidson, edged out the Williams of Antonio PIzzonia in a session hampered by rain.

Button was the only BAR running on the French circuit while Williams fielded Pizzonia and test driver Marc Gene. The Spaniard posted the seventh quickest time.

Third quickest was Alex Wurz, who consolidated McLaren's solid effort from Tuesday when team-mate Pedro de la Rosa topped the timesheets. Today the Spaniard could only manage the sixth fastest time.

Toyota were on hand once again with Olivier Panis and Ricardo Zonta piloting the TF104s. Panis was the quicker of the two in fourth while Zonta was eighth.

I'm sorry too, that I did not posted here in the last days. I had no chance to get online because of work.

I really looking forward to Monaco. The race of the year in one of the most beautiful cities of europe! And it's the most dangerous race of the year. In the last 3 years I could not saw that race because on these weekends I was in Nürburg watching the 24h race on the north loop.
