Thanks for the new thread!

Edit: Is there not some football related game or something we can do/play on here to liven things up a bit? Just suggesting...

This title is SO true, won't be a moment too soon for me.

And woo, my name is on the list, never noticed that before.

We have our final pre-season friendly tomorrow night, home to Burnley, they look a very smart team so that will be a tough test. But that's exactly what players need at this stage to get their game raised before the season kicks off for real.

Maybe we could each do some kind of prediction list for the season for whatever league we want to. With our picks for who to win the league, team(s) most likely to go down, top goalscorer for the season. Or we could do some short term predictions like: First goalscorer of the season, first player to be sent off etc?

I'm really trying to be supportive of Newcastle despite how depressed following them is making me atm, it's not the team's fault that we are in such a mess, sure they played a part but when there's so much uncertainty and events going on off the pitch it's bound to effect the players. I just hope that the players band together and try to pull the club back up, because if they're relying on the owner's help and guidance then they're wasting their time.

Cat Hopefully you'll have a good season ahead of you.

We could do this thing, like predict the scores or win/lose/draw for all our teams, and get so many points if we get the result right.

So say if I predicted that Sunderland would win 1-0. but they won 2-0, I would get like 1 point for the win, but no points for the goal difference. Does that make sense?

So like, everybody predicts for their own club. I'm not very good at explaining things, I know what I mean in my head but I can't quite get it out on here.

I did wonder about that. The only thing with that though is when people are away or unable to post for whatever reason, if someone is doing it every week compared to someone who misses say 5-10 games then obviously it's likely that the more regular poster would have more points even if they hadn't been getting them all right.

I know I wouldn't do very well at it, maybe if Newcastle were still in the Premier League I'd be ok as I know all the teams pretty well, but I hardly know anything about the teams in the Championship, all I can really go on is last seasons form and even that sometimes can be useless as one season a team can be great, and the next they can be fighting relegation.

Idk A game of some sort does seem like a good idea to keep the thread going and give us something extra to do other than ranting about our teams

I don't mind a game, only I'm not sure how it's going to be done. Sara, why don't you just type out whatever you're thinking of, and we'll try to see if that's workable?

Ah that's a really crap situation Vicky. all the best for the upcoming season. I'm worried you may need it. And about the Fabregas situation, I don't get worked up over rumours anymore. They're never true because he always comes out and denies it (good man) but it's ridiculous how other people believe such things. I've had people come up to me and say "Hey so Fabregas is going huh?" and I get annoyed because it's obviously ****-stirring by the media, why do people get taken in by such things? But ah well. Every single summer thus far (since 02/03 when I started watching football) I've seen top players of ours get linked to other clubs so after a while you have to go with the flow or you'd end up worrying to death. Isn't it true for everyone, really?

Hi Cat! Yes you're on the list. Aren't you proud?

Severity of injuries caused to be taken into account for player suspensions

• Bans can be increased or reduced based on several factors
• Yellow card amnesty date also brought forward

The Football Association has announced that disciplinary chiefs will be able to take into account the severity of injuries caused by fouls when dealing with red card offences from now on. Bans can now be increased – or reduced – by the regulatory commissions who will "take account of a number of important specified factors including intent, force and injury".

The change follows a number of serious injuries suffered by players in recent seasons where the perpetrators were red-carded and received a standard three-match ban. The Newcastle midfielder Danny Guthrie was one example last season when he broke the leg of Hull's Craig Fagan with a reckless challenge, and Birmingham's Martin Taylor also received a three-game ban for his foul on the Arsenal striker Eduardo da Silva in February 2008.

"Clubs can now seek a reduction in the standard punishment for dismissal offences where they feel the punishment is clearly excessive," read an FA statement. "The standard punishment will remain appropriate in the vast majority of cases as this change will only cater for the truly exceptional cases. It is not intended for this policy to encourage or lead to the systematic, regular review of standard punishments.

"When considering such cases, independent regulatory commissions will take account of a number of important specified factors including intent, force and injury."

Clubs will not be allowed to simultaneously claim for wrongful dismissal and also seek to reduce the sanction as an alternative. Another change will ensure any bans from red cards shown in pre-season friendlies will not apply to competitive first-team games.

The yellow card amnesty cut-off date will also be brought forward to 31 December. Previously, players who collected five yellow cards before the final day in February were given a one-match suspension. This will now only apply if a player reaches five yellow cards before 31 December.

Ann: It's really not that big of a pit.
Leslie: We can do some of those things.

I see what you mean, I didn't really think of that part. Hmm.

This isn't what I was thinking, but how about we post a picture of a players shirt from behind, with the number on the back and we have to guess the player and the club? But it has to be recent, so I couldn't post a picture of a man utd shirt with 7 on the back and say it's David Beckham.
It's a bit of a crap idea I'm rubbish at making up things like this.

Yay proper football! Though it'll make my Saturday afternoons a lot more stressful from here to next May, as supporting a team isn't for the faint of heart.

Sigh ... Crewe 1 - 2 Dag & Red. That wasn't very good. It's gonna be a long, long season...

He was talking with his girlfriend on the phone when suddenly he's had the heart attack. Her girlfriend has called his room mate to find what happened and his room mate Ferran Corominas has found him dead on their room. He was going to be a dad soon.

Wow that's incredibly sad. Only 26? Surely that's not normal, maybe he had something else wrong with him too

In better news. Newcastle didn't lose today. Thought we had right at the end but thankfully that goal was offside. We actually played relatively well, we had good possession, we just need to do something with it.

Interesting what Shearer had to say about the situation. Basically he wants the job, he loved doing it, he spoke to Ashley on the Tuesday after we went down and gave him a list of 7-8 players he wanted and ones he wanted to keep. And the response he got was that Ashley wasn't looking to invest any more money into the club. So basically now that he's got us into this mess he's not willing to do anything to help get us out, infact he's making it worse by selling what few players we do actually have. As Shearer said, all Newcastle fans just want it sorted out sooner rather than later.
