HU-MONGOID FS FAN!

I have tons and tons of skating coverage. Though I've begun wittling them down now, as I don't want my room wall to wall full of VHS tapes

My current fav skaters I'm obsessed with are:

Fumie Sugari
Virtue & Moir (ice dance CDN)
Jeffery Buttle
Stavitski & .... (oooh bad I forget the name - ice dancers from Bulgaria)
Shen & Zhao
Irina Slutskya

And there are always the standards as a Canadian goes:

Kurt Browning - uh duuuuh
Brasseur & Eisler
Bourne & Kraatz
Sale & Pelletier

And then the oldies:

Ponemerenko & Klimova
Gordeeva & Grinkov
Kristi Yamaguchi
Yuka Sato

I go for those who are pure skaters. Who know their edges and are pure artists on ice. I've never been big on flash or pomp and ceremony.

Admittedly I didn't like Gordeeva and Grinkov - too much Canadianism I guess - but when he died...My heart broke for Katia. I have both her book and the video of the book 'My Sergei'

Theirs is a story that is what fairy tales are made of....

I guess I could be described as your opposite here then because I like "flashy" performances - the bigger the better Since music is such a big part of a programme, I like skaters who pick songs from movies or musicals like Michelle Kwan often does - from my point of view, she has one of the best taste in music

I also liked Irina at this year's WCH - she was absolutely perfect in ALL programmes! I even loved her short programme (which I usually don't). And her cat suit -->

I remember one of Kristi's programs and she skated to "Unbelievable" (I think that's the name of the song, I forgot who sung it). It was one of her best performances!

Most definitely! What's your favorite program of him? I liked Stand By Me & Gladiator the best but hey, gotta give for Man in the Iron Mask, too!

Gladiator & Man in the Iron Mask are my favorites Another one I enjoy the most was Racing from SOI. It perfectly suits his personality as a fast skater.

Yeah, it's Philip Candeloro! I remember him... must've been about 6 years back, right? I do not recall his performance though

I did watch it, yes. I liked Michelle Kwan's performances (of course, how could I not like it?!) as well as the one of Sasha Cohen (I still remember seeing her at the Olypmics ...what? 3 years back in 2002?) - she has improved a lot since then and her skating looks very mature now

As far as ice dance goes, I d Tanith and Ben! They had the BEST performance! I was really happy for them even though they didn't win gold *shrugs* they will soon, I know that

And I liked Stephane Lambiel - he deserved to be #1! He has worked a lot on his step combinations, plus: great music!!

So, how come you weren't impressed? *lol*

The preformances you mentinoed were good esp Lambiel and Kwan. I'm a huge fan of her You mentinoned most of the highlights. What about the other preformances? Lots of skaters could have been better (and were already better on ice). The bunch of great preformances. It's hard to explaine I guess

The Olymic Games will rock Everysone is training so hard... Olymic gold medal still counts more than being world champion.

I love figure skating, I just never come to this board so I never knew about this thread (I followed the link in Jebony's sig -- beautiful wps, by the way, I really love the 2nd one). I always wished I'd taken lessons when I was younger. Now I think it's a little too late.

My favorite female figure skaters are Sasha Cohen (USA) and Oksana Baiul (Ukraine). Male figure skaters -- Scott Hamilton (USA) and Viktor Petrenko (Ukraine). I don't know what it is about the US and Ukraine.

Here's an old Sasha wp I made:
