Fact or Fiction: Sports Style!

This game is just like ‘this or that.’ After replying to someone’s statement with “fact or fiction,” you then provide a question of your own.

Feel free to provide reasons to support your answer.

Fact or fiction:

The LA Lakers will make the playoffs.

I'm gonna say fiction on that one.

Fact or Fiction: the New York Mets will be the NL wild card team (FYI, I'm not a Mets fan, I just find this bunch facinating going into the season).

Fiction.

They have improved their team in the off-season, but there are still a lot of question marks. I'm not sold on them yet. I say that they make the playoffs in 2006. One year away. I figure that Atlanta will continue to dominate the NL East, with the wild card either coming out of the Central or West.

Fact or Fiction:

The New England Patriots are a dynasty.

FACT!!!! There's no doubt about that in my mind. Where they rank among the dynasties is to be determined, but I don't think that anyone can say that the Pats are not a dynasty unless they are bitter about losing to the Pats.

But hey, I may be biased.

As for the NL wild card, I agree that it probably won't go to the Mets, but I don't see it coming out of the NL West. The Padres have a shot, but I think that the WC will either be the Cubs or a team from the NL East. The Braves take the East, hands down, but I really believe that the Mets (given that their pen doesn't kill them, which would be a miracle), or Marlins could surprise people.

Fact or Fiction
The Red Sox and Yankees will face each other.....again...in the 2005 ALCS.

Good thread topic idea, Kathie!

I don't know too much about baseball, but I'll go with yes.

Fact or Fiction
Michael Jordan was the greatest basketball player ever.

Fiction. *runs from Nik and Pat* Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has scored the most points. Wilt Chamberlain has scored the most points in a game. How can Jordan be the best?

Fact or fiction:

There will be NHL hockey next season.

*Steps up to the plate for Pat and Nik*

Basketball is about a lot more than just scoring. A hockey aficionado like yourself should know that. It also includes defense, teamwork, leadership, championships, the ability to make your teammates better, and how clutch you are. MJ excelled in all of these areas. Kareem has the scoring record only because he played the game for so long. If Malone had played this season, he would have surpassed him for career points. Does that make him the greatest player of all-time? Nope.

Due to my bias , I’m going to disagree with you and say that MJ was the greatest basketball player ever, with Chamberlain being close behind.

To answer your question, I think that’s fiction. I would like to think that the NHL would get its head out of its collective butt and come to a resolution, but that’s not going to happen anytime soon. The sad thing is that a lot of sports fans don’t seem to care.

Fact or Fiction:

Mark McGwire will be voted into the Hall of Fame.

It's a toss up. I think if he just comes clean and apologizes, he'll be able to get enough votes (and sympathy) to get in. Although, it could easily go the other way and make no one vote for him. It's a tough call, but right now I'd say fact.

Fact or Fiction:

Maria Sharapova is hotter than Anna Kournikova.

I had to ask! Inquiring minds want to know.

I knew, for sure, Kathie would have me and Pat's back! Thanks, chica.

*chases after Dan*

Now, to answer Shaolin's shallow question, I would have to say fiction.

Fact or Fiction:
Andre Agassi will retire if he doesn't win another major.

Fact.

I think he's on the way out. He probably should have retired a few years ago.

Fact or Fiction

sf3000 will win this year's MLB fantasy league.

No, that's not me.

To answer your question, fiction. Steinbrenner can spend all the money he wants. It hasn't equated to a World Series championship in over four years. If the Yanks' pitching can hold up this season, then they have a chance. But I would like to think they will fall flat on their faces in the playoffs again.

Fact or Fiction: Barry Sanders is the greatest RB of all-time.

Fiction. I don't care how good you are, walking out on your team is not gonna land you that distinction from me.

Fact or fiction: The San Diego Chargers are gonna fall back down to earth this season (eg. have a .500 season or below).

Heh. I am going to say fact, because you can't be the "Cinderella" team every year, or twice in a row.

Fact or Fiction:
Kobe and Shaq will kiss and make up. ( )
