Expos in D.C.

I know we have a baseball thread... I think this subject might carry its own thread because I want to hear your predictions on how will this all work out.

I'm even hearing rumors about a league swap for the Orioles and all that mess. I bet it's someone having fun but one things for sure: Petey Angelos is not happy.

I think the team should not be named the Senators because all the bad stuff would probably be thrusted upon the team like DNA. I think they should start out fresh, they would benefit from having a permanent home without reminders of past flops.

The fact that MLB is finally moving forward with plans to relocate the Expos is promising. This process has been exhausting and long overdue. The city of Montreal doesn’t support its baseball team. Expos fans haven’t for a long time. So instead of dragging their heels and forcing the club to play a ridiculous travel schedule (Puerto Rico, anyone?), not to mention taking over ownership of the club, MLB should have made a concrete decision three or four years ago.

The Washington D.C. area was the most viable option all along. Peter Angelos doesn’t like this move. So, what? There are a number of teams that have been able to thrive within a close distance, let alone within the same city. The Senators, or whatever they will be called, are not going to take away his business. Not unless he continues to field a crappy team while the new team becomes an instant contender. That’s not going to happen. Therefore, he should worry about his own franchise and think about the renewed interest a second MLB team will bring to that area.

If you asked me, this deal is a positive thing for both Baltimore and MLB.

I don't really think the Orioles are crappy, they're just cursed to be in the company of monster teams. They made great moves this Off Season and would've landed both Javy Lopez and IRod but it didn't work.

About the 'Spos I just think it's time they have a home.

Well, of course Montrealians doesn't support the Expos - since the MLB's bending over backwards to move the Expos, why should they? I'm sure there's baseball fans in Montreal (even after all this, close to 4000 watched their game with Florida last night), and it's them who's coming away from all this the worst, and that's a shame.

Too bad it wasn't a couple years ago when they still had a team.

Sad but true.

Montreal has been like a mother, giving birth to prodigal sons who never return. At least pitching wise.

Or anywhere else now that the deal could be voided.

I'll laugh if MLB messes up the relocation of the Expos. As of right now, the move to Washington doesn't look good. I don't blame the city's government for not accepting Selig's terms. It would not be fiscally beneficial.

I'll be interested to see how this story unfolds. If the Expos don't land in D.C., then where?
