I heard there was a cricket team in LA (that's where I actually live but I'm here in jolly old England atm).
My wifey is English kind of persuading me to come back to England - she's from Romford!! Essex girls eh? That means I will have to support Essex if there is a county cricket team in that state or county. Surrey is your team - I kind of know that part of London as I have relatives in Croydon and Mitcham. I was born in Walthamstow so that makes me an EastEnder. I used to have a Cockney accent before emigrating and now I'm back with a strong Cali accent but I do know most of my UK slang though (Only Fools and Horses certainly helped me, innit lol) __________________

LOL
It does sound that way - if I stay in England I might regain my Cockney accent back again and end up sounding like Del Boy from OFAH lol I didn't lose my British roots completely but being brought up in another country kind of takes you away from where you were before Yes 'Er Indoors is a cricket fan and supports England too __________________

I heard England are doing very well. I remembered in the 80s that England weren't that good - I think the best 3 teams back then were West Indies, Australia and Pakistan
I'll always have a bit of Britishness in me no matter what __________________

They had a tough time in the 90's, came back, had tough time 2 years ago, but have recovered from that a lot quicker than anyone could have thought.
No one really gave them a chance of winning the Ashes, but they did it, then they won the test series in South Africa too - who were the #1 ranking team in the world at the time. They're 2-1 ahead in the one day series atm, but it's the T20 World Cup that's gonna be their next big test. __________________

England do look good against a strong South African side (not sure who is their best player but Amla and De Villiers look like the best two players).
I do remember my wife telling me that England lost against Pakistan recently in Tests __________________

They did, but that wasn't really a surprise. We didn't do very well in those conditions, & we made some weird decisions selection-wise, I think we learned from it though & are going to do better over the next year. I think Pakistan are coming here this summer, I'm sure it will be a different story then

Home advantage generally suit the host due to the conditions. I'm pretty sure England will beat Pakistan at home but I don't know how good Pakistan are these days. England do look good though. I'm trying to learn all the field settings on the cricket field - I know the third man position, slips, mid-on and mid-off plus long-on and long-off but still figuring out the silly point position lol
Knowing that I've been alien to cricket for 25 years, I think I'm picking up quite fast - it's that British thing I had in me lol __________________

No wonder why it's call silly point lol
I'm pretty sure cricketers wear "other" protection as well lol I think I am doing well since I know some field placings. Even educated to myself in knowing shot selections (hook, ramp, reverse sweep, sweep, square cut, square drive, on side). Even seen this Indian cricketer who has this legendary style of shot called helicopter which is awesome to watch - the guy's name is Dhoni, I think! __________________

Yeah, I thought about that, but I couldn't remember what it's called! It is just a cup? I think James Taylor has taken some good catches there recently, I think I've seen some gifs somewhere!
& yes, MS Dhoni, he's a legend! Amazing wicket-keeper as well __________________

LOL I think it is termed as a "box"
Is James Taylor an England player? This Dhoni guy seems really good - seen clips of his batting style on YouTube __________________

Oh ok, box makes more sense
Yeah, James Taylor is an England player, he's short so that's pretty much all the commentators ever say about him, but I think he's quite promising. I found the gifs & he actually fields at short leg - which is the same as silly point, just on the other side - stupid cricket terms!
