Back In the Day...

Michael Jordan was a basketball god.
Reebok Pumps were cool.
The NBA was filled with great rivalries.
Ken Griffey, Jr. was the next “greatest” baseball player.
Tecmo Bowl was the shiznit.
Triple-figure scores were common in basketball.
Notre Dame dominated college football.
The Niners were a dynasty.
“Bo Knows.”
50+ goal scorers in hockey was the norm.
Fantasy football was for geeks. (Maybe it still is )
Hitting 35 homeruns in baseball was considered a great season.
The NBA Slam Dunk contest was cool.
Darryl Strawberry, Eric Davis, and Doc Gooden were the greatest “should-have-beens.”

Continue.

Formula One was actually competitive
Australians weren't known for their sledging, just their good cricket

Good thread idea, Kathie.

I'll have to think of something to contribute.

Back in the day....

-Shawn Kemp wasn't fat and didn't have 50 children. And highlights of Payton to Kemp were a must-see. Payton would throw it up and the Reign Man would throw it down.

-There was nothing wrong with short shorts, until Michigan's Fab Five put it out of fashion.

I wouldn't be caught dead in shorts that short!

-NBA Inside Stuff with Ahmad Rashad and Willow Bay was the show!
-Mike Tyson was the most feared fighter in boxing.
-$1 million a year was considered alot of money.
-The Dream Team was actually good.
-I believed Pete Rose (that lying bastard!).
-The Miami Dolphins made Hootie and the Blowfish cry (made me cry too when they always lost to the Bills). Remember that song, Only Wanna Be With You? Sing it:

"You and me
We come from different worlds
You like to laugh at me
When I look at other girls
Sometimes you're crazy
And you wonder why
I'm such a baby
Cause the Dolphins make me cry
Well there's nothing I can do
I only wanna be with yooooooooou!!!"

Great mentions! Keep them coming.

Back in the day....

Baseball cards were put in the spokes of bicycles to give it that motorcycle sound. If you did that today, you would be considered nuts!

Larry Johnson was best known as Grandmama!

Electric football was the bomb-diggity!

Zubaz pants were considered a fashion statement.

What were they thinking?

As Mars Blackmon said, it had to be the shoes!

Wow, what very happened to Larry Johnson? It's like he fell off the face of the earth.

Back in the day,...

Barry Sanders was making jaws drop, Icky Woods was doin' the Shuffle, Craig Hodges couldn't miss, Bonds and McGwire were skinny little homerun hitters.

Penny Hardaway was a Puppet everywhere.
You were in awe of watching Larry Bird and Magic Johnson playing on the court, instead of coaching.
When Canada would regularily win the Stanley Cup.
When the only hockey cities were the ones where kids played road hockey growing up and it snowed.
Michael Jordan wore a red uniform instead of a blue one.
