Yep! Can’t believe it’s the third to last one for this season.

Bringing over what I posted on the other board. Kind of an underwhelming episode, I feel.

Hmm. I’m not blown away by this episode. We got the cannibalism we were all expecting, and right when Kane and others chose not to eat, I said to my friend, “Oh, she’s going to execute the ones who don’t eat.” It didn’t come as a huge surprise to me. Therefore . . . I don’t really think it was worth devoting an entire episode to the reveal. I think they could have found a way to fit the reveal into 5x10, by shortening some of Abby’s scenes and maybe a few of the Madi/Clarke scenes, too. And then they could have followed up on it in 5x11.

I will say that I do have sympathy for Octavia DURING the Dark Year. Like you guys pointed out, she didn’t have anyone else to shoulder the burden with, whereas Clarke and Bellamy always had each other. But with that being said . . . this still does nothing to justify the actions we’ve seen her take in season 5, not in my opinion.

Fuzzy, I would agree that Octavia burning down the hydrofarm “makes sense,” at least from an emotional trauma standpoint. I can understand her very twisted headspace there. But it makes sense in no other way, eliminating another viable option for living. So I still can’t get past that. Obviously taking away people’s choice during the Dark Year scarred her, yet she’s continued to take away their choice. Now poor Bellamy and Indra and all these people who didn’t want war are forced to take part in it.

Basically, I understand Octavia’s descent, but I take it as an explanation and it does not work as a justification for me. I was a little perturbed at the comparison to Clarke, because I felt like the writers were trying to justify Octavia by doing that. I do see the similarities, to an extent, but ultimately, Clarke has my respect more because she didn’t descend into darkness.

On the subject of Clarke, though . . . wow, this episode really went out of its way to paint her as being in the wrong. I don’t think it’s that black and white, but I also don’t mind Madi dropping some truths on her and making her question her decision-making, as it hasn’t been the best.

But Madi . . . I don’t want Madi to be relegated to this type of character now. I like seeing a CHILD in this complex world, as it’s something different and new, and the flame has taken most of those childlike qualities out of Madi.

Abby . . . wow, she really should feel guilty about this. I don’t know what to say. While I see the value in her storyline, I’m also . . . I’m ready for her screentime to be devoted to other characters. So I hate to say it, but I wouldn’t mind if she dies.

I’m really worried Kane will die. But I do like that this episode gave us insight into why he is so willing to go against Octavia. She took away his choice. He has no reason to forgive her for that. Yes, I know she was “bearing it so they don’t have to,” but everyone who was forced to eat ended up bearing it, too. (I’m also still struggling to understand why Niylah and Miller became such fanatics.)

Way too much Echo in this episode for my taste, if I’m being honest. I did like Murphy and the guns, though.

Raven and Shaw . . . it’s cute, but I’m not gonna go out and watch vids or look for gifsets of the two of them. It’s all a little fast. Must be nice for shippers getting to see them kiss, though. I would imagine. I mean, I wouldn’t know, because I ship the pair whose development has been shown and drawn out since season one, but you know.

Bellamy was probably one of my favorite parts of this episode. I like how blunt he was with Octavia. (“Assertive” is a good word for it, Kallor8.) I’m sure there are some people out there online complaining about how he’s not considering Octavia part of his family anymore, based on what he said to her. And if that's true . . . bravo, Bellamy. She put you in that fighting pit, and then even after you saved her, she was just gonna have you keep fighting. You owe her nothing anymore.

I’m not sure who my episode MVP would be. You could argue that it’s Octavia during the Dark Year, but in present time, I’d say Bellamy.

I would really love some Bellarke next week.

Update: I’m making Bellamy my episode MVP for the way he laid down the law with Octavia and didn’t buy into her bull****. I also liked the scene with him and Monty. Not all the Spacekru bonds have really gelled for me this season, but that one definitely has.

Just watched the episode, I actually read some feedback on Twitter beforehand and wow, people really like to make Echo the bad guy of the season and exaggerate everything she says or does, I was expecting her to do something really bad, but for me Echo was the MVP of this episode!

I'll have more comments later!

I haven’t been reading anything on Twitter, so I’m oblivious.

Objectively, she was fine this episode, but subjectively, as someone who just doesn’t like her, I was frustrated to see her get so much screen time. But while I have annoyances, I don’t feel the need to exaggerate her role in this ep. She’s definitely not the bad guy of the season.

Lets not paint Echo as the bad guy to make Bellarke shine bringer.

Echo has literally none NOTHING wrong this season. Leave her outta this. Right now Clarke is fraternising with the enemy, not Echo.

People need to get off Echos dck. Just saying.

I dislike Echo outside of Becho (for... reasons), but yeah.

I'll just say that I doubt Clarke would fraternize with McCreary if he hadn't threatened Madi's life. But then again, she could have just... not told him about the Eye being down/what spacekru knows. If she had just saved Abby, then that would have been enough to probably make McCreary back off. IDK, they're writing Clarke so weird this season.

This episode (and 5x10) were not my favorites for Clarke. Bellamy has surpassed her as my favorite character this season now.

Objectively, I don’t think Echo has done anything wrong this season, so I don’t agree with people trying to exaggerate what she’s done as a way of making her the villain. However, I still do fully understand frustrations and annoyances with her character, as I feel them, too. But I mean, a lot of my frustration ties back to the writing decisions more so than the character herself. The amount of telling versus showing they’ve done with her (and her ship) is just strange to me, and it will never not be.

Now in contrast, they did a LOT of showing with the bunker. I don’t know if we needed an entire episode devoted to the Dark Year.

I loved the Spacegroup in this episode, I just love them in general, I just wish we got more Bellamy + Spacegroup stuff. And given that I think Murphy will die in the next episode, I don't see that happening such a waste.

I’m like 99% sure Murphy will not die, Becks. It would be the most shocking death of the series to me, if it were to happen.

Spacekru . . . I have mixed feelings. And honestly, I probably wouldn’t if Echo wasn’t in it, because I really do like all the other Spacekru characters. Bellamy/Monty is a dynamic that has really grown on me this season, though, due to their 6 years together. Something about their friendship feels very brotherly and natural. I really like it.

It was pretty specific, but they definitely lied about somethings/got some things wrong, too.
