Thanks, Amelia. I didn't get everything I wanted done, but meh, it can wait until Monday at least. For now, party time!

Yes! You're up early, Sharon.

I heard about the school shooting. Another heartbreaking case, but unfortunately won't change unless the gun laws do. And of course Republicans being in NRA's pockets doesn't help. Must be such a scary thing for you guys to think about, April/Amelia.

That school shooting is tragic. I was teary eyed reading the People article on the coach that shielded students. It’s a damn shame. This country is in desperate need of gun control. I read another article on Trump’s first duty in office was to cancel Obama’s law on allowing people with mental illensss to buy guns. It comes off as hypocritical when he stands in front of a podium giving condolences.

They're even against common sense gun control laws. Stricter background checks, a higher age limit, etc. And some people say "well, they'll still get them illegally," which, sure, may be true. But this kid got his legally.

If they aren't willing to budge on gun regulation, then they need to funnel some money to more metal detectors, more mental health advocacy, etc.

And to people who say "arm the teachers"... uh, no. First of all, you'd have to keep it in a place either A) high enough where students can't reach it, which means teachers couldn't reach it fast enough, B) locked in a drawer/cabinet, which means you'd waste time having to unlock it in a real emergency and students could get to anyway, or C) on your person, which students could easily grab from you (especially a tiny person like me against a big student/intruder). So the whole "arm the teacher" thing is stupid, imo.

The fact that most US politicians refuse to even bring in some common sense gun restrictions is just ridiculous for me and all of these shootings are going to continue to happen until some of them grow an ball and decide to put their people over the money they are getting.

Exactly. The fact that their care more about NRA donations says a LOT.

And that's the thing. I don't mind people having guns, but common sense regulations are better than nothing. Banning guns as a blanket measure would just mean more illegal trade of them, but if people can still buy them (with just more careful background checks/training/etc) then IDK the problem. If you're a law-abiding citizen, then strict background checks shouldn't be a problem.

Yep, I mean they can't vote in the simplest of gun control laws because of how much control that NRA has.

It’s so tragic. And so . . . commonplace these days. We do annual drills, but that’s it. I feel like the kids don’t take it as seriously as they should because they’ve gotten so used to seeing it on TV.

If someone could please explain how a country that’s, like, supposed to be the most advanced in the world has so much of a violence problem, that’d be great.

I think mental health is obviosuly the underlying issue in these situations, but it’s infuriating that our gun laws never seem to change.

Any type of mass shooting is something no one should have to get used to when living in an country like the US.

Exactly. Mental health support is paramount, but yet, the government won't pass any funding/laws regarding that, either. We're screwed either way. SMH.

That really sucks for you guys. No offense, but Americans are so ignorant when it comes to any sort of gun control laws.

No offense taken, I agree with you.

Sometimes people just don't understand logic, sadly. It's like talking to a brick wall.

I agree, too. And so many people where I live are all about their guns.

I live in a bit more of a conservative part of CA (at least the locals, some of the students, too), and it's like... ugh.

All these sports are so... nerve wracking.
