I used to have a hard time with that, but now that I’m rewriting, I feel like I’m able to see these scenes matching up with MY story instead of Jason’s, which is . . . needed.

It's probably your way we can come to terms with the clusterfck that was their ending. Still trying to figure out mine, so far I've been suppressing thoughts of them to keep from feeling the pain/disappointment.
