Future Titles:

I'm tired of carrying the weight of the world with only my two hands.
"Slay your demons when you're awake. They won't be there to get you in your sleep."
Survival isn't who you are. It's who you become.
He was the reason why hurricanes were given names.
What are kings, when regiment is gone, but perfect shadows in a sunshine day?
My crown is called content, a crown that seldom kings enjoy.
Kings may be judges of the earth, but wise men are the judges of kings.
In the privacy of my dreams, I'm a warrior.
My crown is in my heart, not on my head.
For surely a king is first a man. And so it must follow that a king does as all men do: the best he can.
Great kings began as great boys
He was king, if he didn’t have enemies he wasn’t doing it right.
Kings also sleep; but the clever ones, with one eye open, just like dolphins and whales.
Not brute force but only persuasion and faith are the kings of this world.

We've got a lot of missing threads in this OP.

Bringing this over from the last thread:

To me, he is the good guy, he's the protagonist. If you separated this season from all the others and only focused on what is happening in this season, for instance, if you imagined that this season was the first ever season I feel most people watching it with fresh eyes would see Bellamy and Spacekru as the heroes and all the other character as the obstacles/challenge to overcome. Octavia and the Eliguis group would be the opposite of that, they would be the antagonists/villains.
I feel that way even knowing Octavia's backstory. To me, Bellamy/Spacekru + Clarke/Madi are definitely being presented as the heroes this season (along with the dissenters within Wonkru, like Kane).

I don't know if I've ever truly felt a disconnect from Bellamy. I've had times when I've felt more connected to him than others. Like early season 2 for example . . . they didn't really give him much to do there, so I didn't feel like I was seeing a whole lot of the storylines through his eyes. Except for, like, 2x04.

But because this isn't Season 1 and we have all this other information and history with these characters we don't see things for what they are now, people can't just look at Bellamy as this amazing heroic figure because of all the things that he has done in previous seasons and the fact he is dating someone who has also done questionable things in previous seasons, but honestly, if you strip all that away, they ARE the good guys right now. And I think that's difficult for people to come to terms with. I think people want to dislike Echo, and therefore Bellamy gets guilt by association. Which I don't think he deserves.

Sorry, I went on a bit of a tangent, but I hope I got my point across
I actually don't necessarily ever want people to just look at Bellamy as an amazing heroic figure. I don't ever want him to lose that anti-hero edge that makes him so compelling. (I'm pretty sure Bob feels the same.) He's definitely had some heroic moments this season, and I'm proud of him for that. But then you follow it up with 5x06, where he's pressuring Octavia to forgive Echo after it took him three years to do so, and I think it's wrong of him to expect that of her, even though I'm no fan of Octavia this season. So he's definitely still not perfect.

Bellamy being so closely tied to Echo in the last episode did him no favors in the fandom, just because Echo herself isn't a popular character in the fandom (and I doubt she ever will be. I certainly don't think I'll ever like her, but oh well. ) But it all goes back to that whole idea that a person is more than a ship, and separating an individual from a dynamic is important. The fandom championed that with Clarke, so I'd love to see the same idea extended to Bellamy, but fans are SUPER protective and passionate over Bellamy. I still find it pretty easy to separate Bellamy from Becho, but I definitely do hope they distance Bellamy from the Echo stuff, because he's such a better character than she is (and more recognizable to the average viewer when she's not around).

Ooh yes, we need to fix the thread links eventually.

I have to comment further but I agree with a lot of points which you both made, April and Becks. I just think that people have a hard time disassociating Bellamy from Echo right now and that is adding to the unhappiness over his arc this season ... so hopefully the fact that they'll be separated in 5X07 will help with that perception because he won't be directly tied to her story then.

Hopefully the upcoming episodes will change some fans view on Bellamy's story this season.

I hope so. It’s . . . really a disservice to he character and to Bob’s incredibly nuanced and thoughtful portrayal of him, I feel, to tie him to this ship so much. Before this episode, they’d literally only had one scene in season 5. I do think 5x06 could have benefitted from not having him revolve around Echo so much (particularly in his face off with Octavia), but . . . one episode doesn’t negate the incredible stuff from 5x03-5x05. And really, even though I didn’t like the ep, I can still see how it was meant to further Bellamy’s arc.

Do you think Becho being apart for the moment will improve that perception?

I don’t think it will hurt, that’s for sure.

No one was having this much of an uproar about Bellamy as what’s currently going on in the fandom until this Becho-heavy episode.

One episode (even one heavy on a ship you don't like) shouldn't have caused this much of an uproar really.

I agree. You can dislike an episode and dislike a ship without completely disowning a character.

Precisely. And I feel like that message gets lost within the fandom sometimes. Like the whole "Not my Bellamy thing" annoyed me because it happened in 5X01 and then everyone loved him again in 5X03-5X05 before hating on him and disowning him again in the very next episode. I'm getting whiplash.

That's a gorgeous OP.

I disliked that this week was a re-run.

I’ve seen Twitter posts along the lines of “you know everyone is going to stan him again as soon as he looks at Clarke.” Which... is probably true. People might still have issue with s5 Bellamy outside of Backo, but Becho is really what they most care about ending, imo.
