I can't and my mum told me not to say anything cause it'll look as if I'm being ungrateful. But I can't stand being around her down mood and general sadness ATM, can't cope with it cause she plays on the sympathy.

ah sorry to hear that but i know the situation as well. i know it's shtty but i find excuses not to be around the person e.g. preceding to be "super busy" and so on...

Plus she exaggerates everything and constantly changes the topic onto her at every chance. I've known her for over 20yrs lol, since children but over the last two years she has changed and I don't like this person. But I can't say anything or do anything. She's at mine just slumping on the sofa feeling sorry for herslef. I'm normally always on hand to those who feel down but with her I can't even talk to her when she is in this state. I'm hoping tomorrow she'll go back to her place cause looks like she staying here another night

 okay, 20 years is a long time. do you think she will change "back" or did she become a friend you don't recognize any more? if so and you don't wanna be friends with her any more, i'd suggest you slowly "let it slide"...i know this sounds bad and i hate it when friends do that but there are always two people involved in a friendship and when one doesn't want that any longer, one has to accept that. __________________

As much as wish I could, she's a family friend. I practically see her every week. Can't escape her, she's everywhere all the time.
