some here say this was a tactical vote. she allowed the law to get through and silenced the conservative critics à la "i was against it, what could i do?" but even if this was the case i still give her credit for making a good decision based on the good of my country. if it helps her wind the next election, good for her.

I think it was tactical too, especially that elections are coming up.

Angela Merkel is a great politician and it's remarkable how far she's come in a male dominant field but she is no liberal hero, besides being against equal marriage she is also in favour of banning the burqua and is generally against multicultarism.

Although, I forget if it was UK or Germany where they didn't have enough votes for one particular party and the conservative extreme party wants to align with a major party to get power. Was that UK with May? I remember Em telling me about it, I think.
