Even if the writing is lackluster at times it helps that we have complex characters like Michael as the main focus of the series

Yeah exactly. That's why it's easy to tolerate bad episodes becsuse if the overall quality of the show is good, a few bad episodes doesn't matter too much

I honestly can't think of an episode I considered bad. Except maybe killing Michael. But now I'm even okay with that since they fixed it.
