Sometimes they also look brown/grey

I'm going to guess green because depending the lighting/filters they can be confused with other colors, and most of the time his eyes looked green.

or even hazel which is both blue/green or is it brown/green - IDK

We do have a dangerous sun here in Australia, and growing up here you get taught that protect your skin from the sun is #1 priority.
