I can understand why some people have drifted away, but if you're enough of a fan to actively participate in a message board on a regular basis, I'm not sure why your interest would just stop immediately when the show in question in cancelled. I mean, ours hasn't!

Maybe if the show had ended in a more positive way there would be more fans here posting but I guess we will never know

Maybe, although for me the fact that we were left with such an abrupt and unsatisfactory ending means there's still plenty to talk about. If we'd had a conclusion where all the characters were given the opportunity to complete their character arcs - the 'happy ending' - it would feel like there wouldn't be much else left unsaid.

Personally, though, even if we'd had that fulfilling ending I'd still be here talking, but then I'm like that (i.e. obsessive! ) about the shows I get hooked on.

TBBT had an ending that was almost universally liked, and we are definitely still talking...though not as in depth. We're mainly discussing new projects and doing headcanons, but we aren't "rewriting" anything because we liked how it ended.

What it comes down to is, if you really love the show, you want to keep it alive even after it's gone. That may mean discussing how wonderful it was and how well it ended and what things you wish you could see of the characters' futures; or it may mean discussing how wonderful it was and how badly it ended and how you might change things and what things you wish you could see of the characters' futures. There's a common thread of love for the whole of the show that drives long term post-cancellation fans.
