I should be out doing Christmas shopping. I like to do it early because I have to pack everything and take it to my brothers - or else ship it. It's a beautiful day - perfect weather. But I'm just not in the mood yet.

So I was really close with this girl in high school, we were in band and a lot of classes together, and despite her and her family being...very different from mine (they're career missionaries and you all know that's kinda the opposite of me ) I really got close with her entire family - she has an older brother, a younger sister, and a younger brother. Her oldest brother was drum major in the band, and when I'd visit her house I'd end up hanging out with the younger siblings too (the younger siblings are 1 and ~4 years younger than me). They're in Poland a lot, so I rarely see them, the last time was at her little brother's grad party last summer.

Two weeks ago Tuesday, the younger brother was in a motorcycle accident about three hours from me, and he's been in a coma ever since. He has two punctured lungs, a fractured pelvis, and swelling in his brain. I've been worried out of my mind for him obviously, and it frustrates me that there's nothing I can do. He's in the military and they've secured lodging for his family at a nearby base, and they have family in the area who does their housekeeping/cooking/etc. I sent them flowers - which I believe is a gesture that only does so much but I wanted to do something - but I just feel so helpless.

Also holy hell it's expensive to send flowers I definitely couldn't afford that $60 but I'll worry about that later.

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend, Nicole. I'll keep him and his family in my thoughts.

It may just seem like a gesture, but flowers really do help to brighten a drab hospital room if you are there for hours on end - and not just because they are pretty but also because every time you see them, you realize someone cares and is thinking of you. So try to hold on to that and understand that your thoughts and kindness are valuable to his family.

I hope so. I just wish there was more I could do.

I'm gonna have a very busy day in Tuesday (I'm off, but I have plans) but although I've been so exhausted the past few weeks - I think the 6 months of 6 day weeks has caught up to me - we are actually on an 80 hour pay period this next schedule! As long as this new guy sticks around, so cross your fingers!

I will probably have to wait and see tonight's ep mid day tomorrow. I will get home from work around 11:30, and it's normally another hour before I can get the ep. I have to be up at 8, have an hour drive for my 10-11:30 plans, then will have just under three hours until my next appointment which is only 20 minutes from my first. There's a library nearby that I took some online finals in 2 summes ago when we were vacationing down here so I'll probably just bring my laptop with me and camp out and watch the ep in between the things I have planned. If I watch it tonight it'll be almost 2am when I go to bed which is normally about when I DO go to bed, but since I'm getting up early and have a long day planned I'll probably just wait until my gap tomorrow to see it.

I went and voted today. Virginia doesn't have early voting - you have to have a "reason" to vote absentee. But they aren't very picky about the reasons.
