My boss just left for the day and he knows I'm sick so he said if I need him to work for me at all this week it's totally fine. Which is a relief to hear from him (as opposed to me having to be the one to bring the subject up if I get worse) but we're still short staffed and I really hope I don't feel worse because I absolutely hate calling in. In the nine years I worked at my previous job, I never called in sick once. They sent me home several times, but I never called in.

I'm still sick, but I've been on antibiotics for about 24 hours now so I shouldn't be contagious anymore. So I'll be back to work today, and I do have Thursday off so I just gotta get through two days then I'll have another to recoup.

I was gonna post a lot here today before I went in, but I can't unless other people post too!

I'm not salaried. I work for hourly pay and so while I get 'sick days' in the sense that I'm allowed to call off if I'm sick, I don't get paid unless I'm actually there.

You get paid here if you're sick. So it's always so weird to me to hear of situations where that doesn't happen
Does depend on the contract though
I used to have a 0-hours-contract; meaning you'll only get paid for the hours you actually work. Husband has a 40-hours-contract, meaning he'll get paid for 40 hours a week, even if he's out sick (or has to take time off during the day for health reasons, for example the dentist, though usually that's only an hour or so and you compensate it).

My dad has a salary job where he gets so many sick/personal days a year as well as a guaranteed 40 hour pay. Unfortunately I don't have that. Those jobs are very hard to come by in the U.S. right now.

40-hours contracts aren't that hard to come by here; but it's mostly temporary contracts. Fortunately, Husband's contract isn't temporary

I haven't pulled up FF in so long and I feel I've missed so much!

Where I am we're still in the high 80s, although last weekend it went down to high 70s and was really nice. Today we've reached 91 degrees though.

Even in jobs that have sick leave there are usually limits, like a certain number of days per year. If you are sick more than the limit - like if you will be out several days in a row because of surgery or a prolonged illness - you can submit for FMLA (Family and Medical Leave), but that is typically unpaid - it just guarantees that you get your job back when you are well again, and it allows you to keep employer-provided health insurance, provided you pay for it.

I've been fortunate in that I've worked for a company that has always been more generous than most. Even back when I was part time I still got vacation and sick leave - it was simply calculated based on the actual number of hours I worked. Since I was working about 30 hours a week instead of 40, I earned about 3/4 of the vacation and sick leave as a full-time employee.
