My dad's side of the family isn't that big on doing a lot of stuff for the holidays.

I didn't end up getting much done over the break though, so these next few days are going to be a lot of work.

I know my folks and sister are going up to see my grandparents the 26th-29th, but I'm not going with them. Someone has to stay behind to take care of the horse, and my super toxic uncle lives up there with them. He and I usually end up flat out screaming at each other.

You should give that horse an extra treat for giving you a great excuse to avoid the toxic uncle.

Once again, I'm spending my weekend packing boxes. I'm getting good at it!

In two weeks I'll be in North Carolina and I haven't even started my Christmas shopping yet.

Looks like gifts will be gift cards or cash again this year.

Found out today that my brother's pacemaker is under recall

He called his doctor and found out that they don't actually have to replace it. Apparently, some people get these pacemakers and don't have a doctor monitor them. The battery can sometimes wear out prematurely. If the device is monitored, the doctor can tell when this is happening and then it's a simple procedure to replace the battery. But if you don't have it monitored and depend on the stated life of the unit - the device can fail.

It caused quite a bit of concern in the family until my brother was able to talk to his doctor and get the situation explained.

Oh, dang!

A fire sprung up yesterday near the San Luis Rey racetrack and the track was engulfed so quickly. About 400 of the 450 horses were evacuated, but so far the estimate is about 40 didn't make it.

Those poor horses! Even the ones who made it out okay must have been so terrified.

It's been a mess. Thankfully the racehorses are used to moving around and used to shedrow type stabling so once they were at the new track they calmed down a lot. The horses evacuated from nearby farms who aren't as used to change are the most stressed.

I leave in less than a month now for California. I'm majorly stressing because I cannot afford this at all. But my best friend is hurting and so I'm going, debt be damned.
