Definitely easy to see why

Today (well, yesterday as it's after midnight, but September 8th) is the one year anniversary of us discovering Tina was joining the cast! I wasn't at all sure what I thought of that at the time, but everyone who knows me knows how hard I fell for Florence.

A lot of us were very unsure about the character. I think we saw her as a real potential trouble-maker. But she turned into such a delight!

I think Florence would have made a great addition to the team if she had been a member from the pilot. She seemed to fill a gap I didn't even realise existed. As a new character joining an established ensemble cast of characters it was always going to be difficult for her to fit in straight away. For me, although she certainly grew on me the more we saw of her, it still felt like she was just there to upset things and create unnecessary conflict. It's a shame we didn't get to see her story develop.

They did a better job developing Florence in the short time we had with her than they did with Tim. There were elements of her story-line that made her sympathetic. It became clear pretty quickly that whatever hard edges she might have on her personality, they were something she did to protect herself. Even though we didn't know a lot about her, she had way more depth.

I think part of that was Tim was never intended to be a permanent fixture. He was the classic "bring someone in for a love triangle and then send them away." He was the Emily, the Priya, the Mic Brumby, the Victoria, the Pike, take your pick from whatever you watch(ed). Florence was always intended to be integrated into the group, so if they didn't make her sympathetic, it wouldn't have worked at all.

It was pretty obvious that Tim was a tool - and I mean a plot tool, not the other kind, although it applies, IMO. I know I was worried that Florence would be much the same, and it wasn't clear at first that she wasn't. But within a couple of episodes it became pretty clear that the writers learned a lesson and were going to give us a more rounded character.

Hahahaha yeah Tim was definitely a tool in more ways than one.

It's a pity Florence wasn't introduced earlier in the series. We never really got to see her integrate properly and then all the progress she did make was crushed at the end anyway. She was a good character and Tina played her so well, making her likeable despite everything.

That's the worst part for me. She was just starting to belong, and then it all came crashing down. And Tina said that all she really wanted was to have people who cared about her who she could care about right back.

It really is a shame. Tina fit in so well with the rest of the cast and she was so obviously excited to be part of Scorpion.
