Got an interesting comment on my story Sure Thing. The person wants to translate my story into Portuguese. She promises to give me credit and link to the original story.

Has anyone else ever had someone ask this? Did you give permission? Any thoughts?

I got bombarded with that request this morning. I don't want to give permission, honestly. I won't have any way of knowing if anything was changed.

I'm sort of leery of it as well. Realistically, there's not much to prevent someone from doing that anyway. I'm pretty certain I wouldn't have a clue if a story popped up in Portuguese that was actually mine.

Funny thought - the VP of my department is of Portuguese descent and he speaks the language fluently. For a moment I imagined asking him to troll ff.net looking for any stories that might be mine. Yeah - not gonna do that.

Plus, I don't like the idea of my fics being published under another name, even with credit. It'd be one thing if they wanted to translate them for ME to publish in a second language with credit to THEM for translating, but I don't want my stories on another account, even in another language.

Well you could always asked Happy to read the stories back to you to make sure none are yours we know she speaks the language

I had it done but in French once. The only way I allowed it was that I had her translate the story and then I posted the French story on my own account.
